Most of the megasquirt distributors sell these and i think there's wide distro--network in the states and canada.

There's a few US guys (one example) running megasquirt on their 1Js now and some of the msextra developers are canadian.

Funny you mentioned Megasquirt. My buddy just installed one on a Honda . Hes having a bitch of a time setting it up though. The program keeps freezing juring calibration . Very cool options and the displays are easy to read and setup. Still it's a little over my head , the thought of having to retune with climate change and cold nights just gives me headache. I'm sure its a great unit just too advanced for me at this point.

There are a lot of options for a wideband and I saw a camparison thread somewhere that was very informative. i'll try to find it !!

Update on my bud ....he blew a rod right through the block

    Better news

I got sick of waiting for a bodyshop to paint my car so I set up a paintbooth in the garage and let it fly !!. BMW code 668 JetBlack 1 gal Dupont Chromo Base 1Gal Dupont Clear 75 ft of plastic , a fan and the garage door open just a little and a few lights . Worked out great with good airflow . A cut and buff will be happening over the weekend but for now i'm just enjoying my new ride.

    Looks great!

My garage looks very similar to that with the plastic sheet all over the place, I set it up to paint a friend's car and I'll be doing my Supra when I get the time/motivation to do it. I'd love to paint it black but I already have a black car (the Century) and that's enough effort to keep looking decent so I'll stick with white, maybe a metallic paint though.

    Thanks guys !!

Norbie .. Black is a PITA but hey it's sooo nice !!! We had a RX8 at the shop that was Dark Cheery Mica .. very nice color and I thought about doing mine in it but changed my mind .

ReQ.. I sprayed it with some of the pieces on but the flares were about an inch from the fenders so the paint would get behind them . all mouldings were taken off for the most part . The wing stayed on and the glass was still in the car so I could have done a better job but this was not a mint MKII to start from so i'm not looking for perfection just damn close

Chris thanks and I bought and tried a Mines ecu .....it turned my car to shit !! Cough cough . sputter sputter. I could hardy get out the driveway . MUst have been shit or tuned for a completly different setup than mine dispite what the seller told me . Oh well back to the drawing board on the fuel cut issue

    re: ECU's

1JZ (Florida) with MS Extra. Would be more 1JZ's referred to in various posts in the MsExtra forums.

There's a few canadian guys who are megasquirt experts - you have to spend a bit of time on their forums but is worth the effort - plus there's a lot of other owners living in cold weather territory.

The cold climate isn't an issue once you've tuned your car. You can temp compensate in a number of ways (both for fuel and spark and during warmup, accel, etc). There's guys in northern europe running MS turbo cars, even skidoos and other strange stuff.

A lot of MS users are quite willing to share ECU config files.

Not sure how close these resellers are from Newfoundland are - http://efi4tuning.com - Quebec?

Thanks !! I haven't installed any gaskets , mouldings or mudguards yet as I want to get the cut and buff done first . Should be complete with all the goods in a week or so .

Chuckster thanks for the link !! I 'll give them a call and see if they have any experiance tuning 1J's with it. Quebec is Canada's only french speaking province so I might need a translator I have a hard time understanding a damn word even when their speaking english LOL !!! I really like the options it offers but they say you might as well keep the laptop in the car because our summers are like 8*c in the morning and then it 's 25*c by evening so that means the car will need constant tuning to run right . I don't know much about it but seems like a PITA for a fella who wants to stay with a mild tune and moderate HP .But I am open to anything that cures my problem so i'll check it out .

If you just want a mild tune, just slap in a HKS FCD. They are adjustable so you can tune WOT with them as well.

MS or any other ecu is a good idea but only if you want to fine tune everything. By the sounds of it, you just want to get rid of fuel cut and have a car that drives around normally with minimal fuss.

I agree MA61's look awesome in black, provided you keep it clean. I'm aware of my own laziness though which is why I won't paint mine black - it would get washed every 6 months and look like crap the rest of the time!
