    im in newcastle.

for the moment ill go with the 32,000rpm bearing that my local bearing man is getting me that should keep me out of trouble. and realistically the blower is about to get ripped off in place of a turbo. so its a bit of a moot point anyway.

although i do like the idea of making a tensioner in that fashion. means you can use a double row bearing for strength and longevity and still have it eaisly replaceable.. also without too much machining effort.

I work for a bearing company (CBC.) If you go with the 6300-2ZC3 it will be able to handle the RPM easily but the 2Z suffix means it has a non contact metal shield, not a rubber seal. These 2Z bearings are not generally used in automotive idlers as the shield allows both dust and crap to enter the bearing but worst of all it allows the grease to come out. This is exasperated by the heat in an engine bay (on top of the heat created by friction in the bearing itself.) The heat melts the grease which in time will run out of the bearing, leaving it to run dry. A bearing running dry will make a horrible noise and not last long.

NTN make a bearing specially for automotive idlers. In your case it would be a 6300LLH/L410 (i'm not 100% sure on the grease code but i'll check tomorrow at work.) This has 'Low torque' seals (read low drag) and high temp grease. It is used in many OEM idlers. They have bright blue rubbers seals. Ford Australia and Yella Terra use them in alot of things. I would have to check the speed rating but 20,000 should be possible for such a small bearing

I'm sure that other bearing manufacturers will make a equivalent to the NTN product to. Oh and try to stick to Japanese or European bearings like NTN NSK KOYO etc and away from Chinese and Indian bearings. There are a lot of cheap nasty bearings around at the moment.

I had a look today at work today. Firstly the proper part number is 6300LLHC3/L412. Secondly it will do 20,000 rpm. Lastly, and here's the killer, its currently not brought into Australia.

A 6300LLBC3 may be your next best option. It still has a rubber seal but its non-contact. So that puts it somewhere between the ZZ shield (or 2Z in SKF language) and the LLH (low torque seal.) It will seal better than a ZZ but not as good as a LLH. It will have a smidge more drag than the ZZ but less than an LLH. I didn't have time to check if it is available with high temp grease.

If anyone want to have a look at the spec themselves check out here.

The bearing tables section has the sizing, speed ratings and load capacities. And the seal and construction info is in the technical data section among heaps of other info.

I just grabbed from cbc this morning a 6300ZZ/2a NTN bearing.

i know it isnt ideally sealed but the 16,000rpm bearing that i did have in there initially lasted almost 2 years and the hoest truth is that the tensioner will be coming out in the next few months to make way for the turbo anyway.

i will however pull this one out and inspect it each service just to check its still in one piece

thanks for your help mate, you were a million times more helpful then the clown at my closes bearing shop (not cbc)
