    Default TA22 Discs

    Hey guys,
Abit of a rule i have is before making sumthing go hard make sure it stops hard
and well front disc rear drums arnt common in sports cars anymore for obvious reasons

can i convert the rears to discs and maybe a better disc (larger + vented) on the fronts and in the process change to a 5stud patten (much easyer to get rims) or am i asking way to much?

i dont really plan on doing any work (beside putting in a T50) untill Xmas but i want to start accumilating parts and getting bits ready so i can take the car off the road for a month or 2 and just load all the bit into it (gives me plenty of time to find eveything i want and i want alot)

    cheers

Hey man, there is a lot of info in these site already, just have to do a search....but ill make it easy for you....If you wanna go 5 stud, get a G series diff out of a RN25/27 hilux with MA70 rear discs, and then you can either try to find MS65 hubs (good luck) that will change it to 5 stud (5/114.3 stud pattern same as rear) Or if you want a upgrade of the brakes as well, just go to hopperstoppers.com.au and they can upgrade the front disc and calipers to Ford AU3 in any stud pattern you want...actually they also do a conversion kit for the RN25/27 diff from drum to disc if you want the same all round....
Anyways hope this helped, if not just do a search as there are quite a few brake upgrades you can look at doing....

the tech doc for the corona/pug/hilux upgrade for early celicas says that it MAY work on ta22's. can anyone verify this?

sorry mate i was talking about front struts

youd be better using xt130 struts if its in a ta22, only reason im using ta22 ones is i dont want to have to shorten xt130 ones.

you can use corona st141/rt142 (live rear axel NOT IRS) rear discs on the ta22 diff. ill have to talk to Johnnie because he put them on the diff i bought off him. they fit nicely though! i think you have the enlarge the carrier bearing to make them fit?

also what kind of power are you going to be running through the driveline? you might want to look at upgrading to a hilux diff like suggested above.

    Dom,
have you got an approx price for the brackets?
also are you saying that the corona/pug/hilux upgrade works, but you have to shorten the struts?

    cheers

you could get away without having to shorten the struts on a ta22 but you wouldnt be able to lower the car as much before it gets to running it on bumpstops.

im saying the corona/pug/hilux WONT work with ta22 struts but will with the xt130 ones.

what people usually do in this case is convert to coilovers becuse cutting your struts is illegal, but the coilover sleeve hides the weld on the strut. you could do the same without removing the spring seat but i doubt you would find an engineer willing to pass it.

havent got a price yet still waiting for megz to pull them off his car. in all honesty if i could go back and think it through again i would probably opt for some twin piston vt calipers and a discs to suit but seeing as my calipers were only 10 bucks i couldnt help but go for that option

The plan i have, is pintara discs with commo calipers as above, and bluebird trx discs and calipers on the rear as per TIO thread.

BTW Im in on the brackets too pending price.

    Cheers.

If your after 5 stud for sure, go with what Scott sed (TA22Boy), which is what i will be doing, same as a mate, and probably scott too... oh and you should be able to make MA70 rear brakes fit ya hilux diff if you put the effort in.

not trying to say your wrong here but since when is cutting struts illegal? my engineer has completely approved my brake conversion which included cutting the struts a couple inches and also changing the spring seats... i had the MX73 struts cut down to the same length as the original TA22 ones and also had the spring seat removed from the stock TA22 strut and put on the MX73 strut

further to that i even got the TA22 steering knuckles bolt holes elongated to fit the larger MX73 strut base

    cheers

from what ive been told (if i remember correctly from oldcorollas himself) cutting of the strut housing is illegal.

ill look into it but i cant see why it would be.
