just out of curiosity, any pics?
Hey guys,
About a week ago i got a 32/36 weber installed on my 4AC, it now runs a reground cam with the weber and standard pee shooter exhaust.
to do the instilation with the adapter plate i had supplied the carby guy, he could not use the standard spacer with the PCV outlet on it, so he blocked up the inlet and left the outlet on the rocker cover to vent through a hose directed to a metal bottle.
and also run all vacuum hoses in a loop so they look like they are doing something (if i get pulled over).
now about 2 days after i got my car back it made a loud backfire noisei pulled over to investigate but everything seemed fine, then when i left work i noticed alot of oil on the gorund (more than normal).
and now tonight the poor motor has cracked a head or head gasket big time, i have steem coming out of my exhaust and puss on my oil filler cap, it will not run for longer than 3 minuts befor overheating.
now i just want to know if this sounds like there is not suficiant ventilation as to caused these broblems?
would you consider this to be carby guys fault?
any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.
just out of curiosity, any pics?
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
in this pic the hose venting to metal bottle has been removed

Maybe it was running super lean?
Might have damaged a valve/stem, causing the oil, and then later blowing the head gasket.
Good opportunity for a 4A-GE

have you spoken to the carby guy about it? if he only put the carby on the engine i don't think he could have caused much damage.
Thanks, Calvin
The hose from the PCV back to the base of the carby is just so the oil fumes or whatever you want to call them are burnt by the engine and put out through the exhaust rather than vented to the air (as now happens into your bottle). Can't see how that would contribute to a head gasket failure.

this could be the case, but the carby guy tunes carbys all day i cant see him tuning it to lean, but he was a f**king nut case.
hokey
dont waste your money, the cam was only $88 so that was worth it, everthing else you have to back up with extractors and exhaust to get any benifits, and the money you spend doing this would have been better spent somewhere else. i have spoken to the carby guy but to no avail, he did cover his ass pretty well.

you are correct but if there is nowhere for the excces air in the engine to go what happens? it pressurises and blows gaskets.

Yes that's true but
"so he blocked up the inlet and left the outlet on the rocker cover to vent through a hose directed to a metal bottle."
So the engine was still vented.
The force needed to do that to an engine wouldnt be held in by any small hose anyway.
I mean, you get a 25yr old engine, modify it and it dies, you shouldnt need to question it, anything could have happened, it might have had a bend valve for the last 10yrs of its life.

excess crankcase pressure doesn't blow heasgaskets.
couldn't be from giving it too much stick after the mods? or timing being advanced too far? what is timing set to now?

anyway looks like the silvertop will be going in sooner than i thought![]()
How much did the jetting of the carb cost if you don't mind me asking?

i didn't get it jetted there still stock off the Cortina, but it cost me $200 to get the carby put on, there was some stuffing around with the adapter plate, not the best quality item.
