Ok, so the late model turbo rears were different from the standard ones? Not a problem. If anyone knew which models of celica had the big singles and the big rotors, that'd be great. Wreckers tend to charge a premium if it's associated to a premium car...

The ST204 calipers are not the same. They are the same as the ST184 though, which means they'll sit on your standard rotor, but not the bigger Oz single pistons.
The Oz spec ST185 calipers are like that to increase the Oz manufacturing content required to sell them here, by the time the ST20x model came out, this rule had disappeared.

    Edit:
ST204 brakes are larger than ST184. The rotor is larger at 278mm rather than 256mm, but still smaller than ST185 ADM, and also has a 55mm centre bore rather than 54mm.

Ok, so the ST204 callipers will work, but have no significant advantage? Sounds like the aust ST185s are still the ones I want...I can get the RDA slotted/drilled disks for about $220pair, so I'll put my slotted fronts on the back...

Even worse, they're no improvement at all. Yes, stick with the GT4 brakes. The FWD ones aren't worth squat.

Digging up an old thread .
I nead to upgrade the rear brakes on my AW11. Now I know Jostix used SC AW11 front rotors on the rear but used a 6mm spacer from http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...ht=aw11+brakes, between the hub and disc.
But, I was wondering if anybody knows the hub offset of the ZZW30 MR2 rear discs?
From what I've been able to find (ebay of all places) the rear discs are 263mm x 22mm but if the offset magically suits the AW11 rear hub, it would save time, effort and coinage replacing studs and making spacer rings.

That and, does anybody have a pair of late model SW20 turbo rear calipers they want to sell?

Just to add to this, I'll throw my front end upgrade into the mix.

Calipers: ZZE-123/ZZT-231 front single piston (can take up to 25mm thickness disc)
Disc: 278mm diamater DBA-743 (ST185 Celica) redrilled to 4x100 PCD

everything bolts up no worries at all

here's some pics from when I was sizing them up...
Yet to get them redrilled and installed properly, but you get the idea.

The difference in size of the discs

Here is the spacing around the caliper bracket, as you can see it's pretty centered as it is
The disc was only held down by 1 bolt, but the disc was flush with the hub and the bolt on caliper side so this is a pretty real measure.

And this is the finished product... at least how it will look once the discs are finished.

How do the celica/corolla front calipers compare to the GT4 single piston item? In terms of piston diameter?

plonka: why do you need to upgrade the rears just our of curiosity.

st185 twins have 28% more piston area than the stock units. from memory the st185 twins are 52mm (off the top of my head) which would make them 133% the size of the stocks.

ive got a spare set of superstrut twin piston calipers + discs (265mm iirc) ready as a direct bolt onto aw11 if poeple are interested.

I used to be all for the ST185 big singles but after it being hammered home about how good the stock brakes are with just good fluid, pads, lines, I'm beginning to think the extra unsprung weight will outweigh braking advantages.

I reckon the setup toof mentions above (superstrut) might be a good comprimise between braking and unsprung weight - twin piston calipers, 7mm increase in diameter and I think 3mm increase in thickness. I'm thinking this is what I will aim for now, combined with the SW20 rear upgrade, good pads/fluid/braided line and maybe fiddling around with bias a bit...should be nice.

I had the twin-piston callipers on my MR2 for a while, and they're a total bugger to get pads for other than a basic bendix. As far as hot track pads go, I had to go back to the std MR2 calliper...

yeah ? ive got project Mu pads in mine straight off the shelf, endless also do them off the shelf.

also the superstrut ones take a different pad (larger) from memory than the st185 twins.

I seem to rememeber reading that the superstrut pads are the same as early SW20 twin piston pads so availability shouldn't be a problem

That is what it says here anyway
