Cool beans. I've just been looking at some things on yahoo...

    302 deg 11mm lift cams and 2.2L 92mm pistons.

That'd make for a real fucking screamer.

Then it twigged, holy fuck, taking each bore out 3.5mm?!?!? (from standard) but from what i read this can be done with relative safety.

22R pistons on 18R rods? no? yes? no? no?

I'm just brainstorming. Also known as putting ideas for a money pit into my head.

standard 22r pistons will give you no where near a useable compression ratio when coupled with the 18rg head. the 18rg rods have been used before in this conversion, but you will need custom hi-comp 22r pistons or some such, as the 22r pistons have the right pin height and they can be had in a 92mm bore.

So, if i'm understanding this correctly -

Using 22R pistons in a bored 18R-G will give you a comp ratio closer to that of a 22R rather than something close to an 18R-G.

However, you'd think that 22R pistons in an 18RGEU would provide a similar comp ratio. Or is it that it's always going to be lower, no matter which version of the 18R-G you put them in?

The varied static CR in RGs is dictated by the pistons, not the head. So "yes" to your last question.

On the topic of pistons, Anyone know of forged O/S 18RG pistons? I've gotta rebuild the 18RG in the not too distant future, and i'm just playing with ideas at this stage, how far will I go?

Depends how oversized you want. If you just want .5 over to clean up the bores I can't help but if you're looking for 92mm pistons to bore to 2.2L you used to be able to get Venolia branded pistons from cyberspace auto or toysports can't remember which one now. Both US based companies. Mine set me back US$550 about 3 years back. These are 10.5:1 compression also.

Just found this site with Kameari 92mm pistons. Click me

I had a set made by Special Piston Services in Melb about 10yrs ago.
I sent them a set of TRD pistons i had of which 2 were broken and they made me a full set to the same specs for about 900.
    I have a very tuff 2.2L -220hp motor i may consider selling.
If your keen call me 0433103584.

Hoping to keep it under 2L because my understanding is that Over 2L and i'd be competing against much more powerful cars if/when i take it too the hill climb... I'm not looking to spend megabucks either... If there's an option out there for a reasonable price i'll take it.

If you can find an engine that will give you anywhere near what i am offering for a cheaper price i will throw in the rest of the car for free.

It has frogies, BIG Cams, twin 48s, billet aluminium flywheel- 4.5kg, sprung centred button clutch that has been tweaked, massive amount of head work , comp valves+ valve springs, TRD copy headers, modified oil pump.
It has only done approx 1500-2000kms since fully rebuild.
It will pull 8k rpm all day no hassle.
It has had massive amounts of money poured into it to be a reliable engine just time for me to move on from it.
