    They are not 9.7s as they are stamped on the top, a stated earlier, so they must be the lower comp ones, 18rgu? 18rgeu?
    They look very rusty in the ring grooves. I see a full rebuild happening here.

    Yeah, unfortunately they dont look like 9.7's

    I took some pics for you to compare. This is comparing my 9.7's with my 8.somethings.

    Apart from the dome and the stamping, I can't see any other obvious differences

    oh, what orientation is the engine number. They way the old dizzy hole has been blocked up, makes me think this is a bitsa engine made from an 18RC block.

    All the 18rg blocks i've had have got the plug in the dizzy hole. The way I could tell is that the dip stick had been move to the other side.

    Have a look inside the piston skirt.
    88251 = 8.7:1
    88270 = 8.3:1

    Either way, that's and 18R-C/18RGEU rod, so I'd be guessing 8.3:1 or a rod swap has been done.

    That dizzy plug looks right... dont forget it has the oil pump drive gear in it... its not just a block off plate. Steve, I didnt know the 18R-GUE had the same rods as the 18R-C... interesting

    Oh, that dizzy cover is factory? very homemade lookin'

    Steve, ur right. The 9.7's above have 88252 and the 8.x's have 88251. They must be 8.7's.

    Hey Guys,

    Finally uploaded some pics of the 18RG toady. Back from the machine shop all balanced and ready for assembly. Check them out on my rebuild thread.

    Cheers,
    Ren.
