The "Extra RA25 panel" he has is actually a TA27 panel. Of the four centre tail light panels, only one is from an RA25.

Oh, and anything can be bought with enough money

    Back to 18RG talk...

Anodised ram tubes and filter socks are available through Rodger... IMO they are quite reasonable prices

It also infers that the 2xR, 4A and 5M pumps also fit... so could be interesting to see if this is true... because 4A pumps are a lot newer than 18R items same with the mid 90's 22R pumps
After looking around the wreckers, they do look very similar on most of the early 80's Toyotas, but it's not the pump that's a bitch to find, as alot of RA23/28s came with air con on their 18R-Cs... It's the bracket to fit it to the 18R-G that's an absolute bitch to source...

Welder and steel offcuts FTW there mate. May look at making a Jig as I really want AC on my RA28... so some of you may benefit (and pay for my R&D scrap steel )

Gotta wait for the 18RG to turn up though, and then measuring will take a bit of time to get everything precise. Might have to put a level on the engine when its on the stand I really wish I had a bigger shed though.

    Hi everyone.

Does anybody know where I can buy a new Timing Chain Guide for the 18RG? Specifically the curved one located in the cylinder head.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ren someone mentioned in the classic celica thread that someone in the US was selling new genuine guides. Check out www.classic-celica.com I think thats where they are. Plus US$ vs AU$ is very good at the moment.

Is this thing going to be ready for the cruise???

Cheers Dana & Owen. I've emailed Rick @ Toyheadauto for a quote on the tensioner guide.

While I was browsing around the website I came across these "Jap Spec. Side View Mirrors".. I was actually looking for some for my '28. Do you think these are worth $200AU? Apparently these are genuine Toyota items.

P.S Although time is of the essence, I do believe the RG will be on the road in time for the cruise

I think I am starting to loose my patience with this 18rg. It seemed to have a much quieter valve train whenafter fitting the new 0 ring to the upper tensioner the other day although it has started to leak only slightly. Today it seemed quite on a cold engine. After driving it to the exhaust shop to get a couple of flanges welded onto the new extractors and driving it home it sound noisy again. I have tried to set the tensioner to the factory specs and have just about run out of adjustment. I am thinking a well stretched chain is the problem. Maybe I will try a oil change and a better grade oil that will hold its viscosity better and a better oil filter. If that does not solve the noise I will pull the motor back out and fit some new chains. I might even try winding on a new top chain as the new one I have here has a separator link. It is a reasonable brand and does not have split rollers that some people have said can cause issues. If I cant fit a new top chain without pulling the motor down I might as well remove the engine and fit all new chains. This also leads to the question I have asked a few times before with no definate answer.
There are 2 different types of chain tensioners and also 2 types of curved tensioners that they push against.
    Are they interchangeable?
I am picking up the 18rgeu head from the reconditioners on thursday so I am also tempted to refit that one as I know all the valve clearances will be factory and it will have no issues. It is starting to get to the absolutely NO FUN stage.
    Cheers Dave

You've gone to the trouble of chains/guides and orings. Just as athought, have you checked the oil bleeder or what ever its called between the chains on the head.
I mean the one you can veiw if you take the small oval or square plate off the front of the head.
If this is not positioned horizonally you would find that the oil is not going on the guides and chain.
    hope you get my drift.

Yep, I removed that when I swapped heads and replaced it with the line horizontal as per the green bible.
I will be doing the oil and filter change today and will see if that makes a difference. If not I will do what I said in one of the above posts.

I'd buy an 18RG air con bracket if you make some up and they look tidy. I want to keep the factory air working when my RT112 eventually gets converted from 16R to 18RG.

Afireman, I hope you are buying a genuine toyota filter, they make the world of difference to your oil pressure I even have a part number for you! 90915-YZZD2 ( I keep it in my phone because I never have it when I go to toyota to get a filter )

Sirri, not sure if the 18RG and 2TG ones are the same... I think they have a different thread from memory... could be wrong, so best to check.

As for the air con brackets, they are a while off even being developed... so dont get any hopes up yet.
