update on pricing for anyone who's interested: upgrade motoring in the usa - still no email, however they finally answered the phone for me...
their listed price is not available "because of the current strength of the yen" so today its $495us + $129us shipping + $30us 'wire transfer fee' - so that puts it a bit over $700au (bit sad) - i'll try to be a bt quite for a while because i feel like i've hijacked this forum. Has anybody tryed the electric turbos on there geu or other engine, that are on ebay for $35 US?


The reason i ask, is i have a cold air intake with a filter mounted on the front.


I'm thinking, with my mods, larger injectors/extractors and other mods, if it may help getting air into the motor better. Especially at idle.



They claim better HP/fuel consumption, blah blah
Whats the general thinking.

If you really want to know the truth - neither the electric supercharger or front mount air filter will yield you any useful measurable results. There are better ways to go about it and if you look into the maths behind the electric supercharger you will see that it just doesn't work. I honestly would not put one on my car if they paid me $35 for it. Invest it in a proper airbox and filter setup. Don't be tempted to think just because the fan is pushing air and normally the engine is drawing it in that it must be a better result using the fan.

In no way shape or form is this crap worth even vaguely considering. I'm a bit suss on your front mount intake as well i'm afraid with that perspex screen over it.....how's any decent airflow get thru those pitiful little holes?

you guys are so colourful in rubbishing this set up. I give up..lol no hairdryer.
The air filter is a test, to see how it would perform. (the perspex is already off, since pic was taken)
As the car is not on the road yet, i have not tested it.
I have tested the free flow filter, which felt like the engine just wanted to rev out.
Also i've tested an st141 filter box, that felt better with more torque.
I'll continue to get my car on the road and look at other options later.

The ACT is to close to Sydney, don't fret, consider it gone. GT8 i got your point.

Hi,

An electric turbo would work, but only if it was capable of pushing out the air you would expect from an exhaust-driven unit - which means it would require a pretty big (ie powerful and amp-draining) electric motor. The units like above are too small to add anything.

To get more air, without having it being forced, requires the removal of as much resistance (to the incoming air flow) as possible. In your set up the long flex pipe would introduce resistance - much more than the shorter stock system that came with the 18R-G(UE) engines. The kinks (or ridges) in the long flex pipe you have would also incurr more friction. The stock engines use a flexi pipe to attach the inlet manifold to the air filter - but it is a short pipe and is necessary to be flexible as the air filter is mounted to the chassis and connects to the vibrating engine.

If possible, you should look at how the stock system is set-up and try and emulate it. It will give you the least air resistance for the incoming air and, I think, give you better performance than your current set-up.

Of course, add some nice extractors as they help a bit in performance, and also deliver that boner-inducing sound that a healthy NA 18R-G is known for.

Yeh guys, i see your points.
I just thought on this set up that stopped at lights on idle it may help the flow of air.

River, i have the a spare AFM with the original air filter sytem from the geu motor also.
As i will be able to measure air flow once my Emanage and Profec E-01 is in next week. I should be able to determine the best scenario. And monitor in real time.

As i mentioned before, an air box with flat filter was the best result ive had so far.
