Anyone know if I can put an 18rg into my toyota Dyna RU20 has the old 5R motor which is ok but the Camper cruises mostly at 4000 at 110kmhr and the 18RG would be more suitable in that RPM not to mention easier to enjoy spinning her up as diff ratio is 9:1 about 3 times bigger than a 9 incher with 5 speed and biggest diameter wheels I could run legally on it.

it has been my experience that where an "R" series motor was another "R" series motor usually fits with minimal fuss that said it maybe different in in the confined eng bay of a van

Zammo, 5R's are not simply interchangeable with 18R's. Very different blocks, with differnt mounting points.

Make some new engine mounts, new exhaust, new wiring, get a gearbox and bellhousing to suit, and sure.... you can fit an 18RG in to replace the 5R (that's what I'm doing in a stout).

But that's the same regardless of if you wanna fit a 12R, 18R, 18RG, 186 red motor, 308....

yeah yeah yeah and a tail shaft in some cases and a manual pedal and associated master and slave cylinders relocated radiator ..........

i wrote that in a hurry and probably shouda gone into more detail

the point i wanted to make (but prob didnt) is 2R 5R 8R 12R 18R are all similar in dimensions and are generally a bolt in affair with the exception of some trans tunnel bashing to accomodate a W40 or W50 gearbox and our above mentioned aditional mods

I definitely anticipate all the issues associated with a different architecture from Dinosaur to more modern accepted design but more worried about the 5 speed transmission in my Dyna as the gearbox is designed much stronger than the usual W series early and later boxes not to mention Id love to keep the column shift.

The 5R has some good legs due to the gearing but something that breathes better or likes to revv would be a much better choice.
Can the 18rg replace the 5r using the same gearbox? the rest is something I can managed but would definitely prefer not to change the box or touch it at all.
The Dyna box and diff are fantastic for pulling such a big heavy rig.

You should be alright, unless it has the cast half bellhousing.

Ok sorry if I shouldn't be asking questions in here, has anyone found any gilmer dive parts that fit off a different motor? I only need crank pulley, water pump and alternator. Also I can't remember if I changed oil pumps when I swapped sumps years ago, is the mid sump oil pump different to front sump? Thanks.
Looking for a new toy. If you have something 18r powered let me know.

The ECU from that 18rgeu in Moonta looks like a Delco item that I have on one of my 18RGEU sets. Uses MAP sensor.

    lilcrash.
    The oilpump pickups are different.

Left Corona sump, Right Celica sump.
I am lead to believe that the corona pump will fit in the celica sump and when the pickup is rotated you end up with a more centred pick up.
This is done to reduce the risk of the infamous 18rg oil delivery troubles on hard cornering.

I can't remember what my oil pump looks like now . We bought it with mid sump and fitted a front sump. But my dad may have changed pumps or pickups while I was busy. I guess it doesn't matter if both fit in a mid sump though.

18r W40-50 bellhousing should bolt straight up as the bellhousing on the Dyna unbolts.
    Cheers Brett.
