    Hi,

Trini was going to have a nice ITB rebuilt NA 18R-G, but the cost was more than getting it turbo'd, so I went for the turbo. Yes, the sound of a nice NA 18R-G, with a good exhaust system, is indeed a sensually wonderful sound. However, the power delivery from a finely built 18R-G turbo is something that brings a smile to your face each time you put your foot down on the throttle.

The only solution I could see was to have one of each.

My 18rg has 92mm pistons and 10.5:1 compression I think and its imminently streetable.

Has enough shove to be fun without being too crazy fast.

After Rodger rebuilt the carbs and I put electronic ignition on and its been utterly reliable ever since.

Do you know what size chokes you're running in your carbs? All info I have found tells me I should be running 38mm, but with the 38s it runs like a pig with no progression from idle to mains. I've choked mine down to 36mm as a temp fix to make it more streetable and it's much easier to drive but does'nt have as much pull when I open up the throttle.

    Sorry no idea.

PM Rodger on here with your set up, I have found him imminently helpful in getting things running well.

Another 18RG being brought back to life:

Found this motor in brisbane. It had been sitting in a shed for 10-15 years and came out of an alpha.

    Fairly standard build
    270 head
    253 cams
    20R or 22R modified pistons
    solex carbs

All work was done at Road and Track in ipswitch.

with all new gaskets, water pump, timing set, extractors, fuel pump, clutch ect and in my RA28 the total cost will be ~$3000 - with assembly done by me. I am just a student so everything had to be basic. Hopefully it gives me trouble free service for a few years.

Got a couple of questions for the planned rebuild of my 18rgeu

First up the bloke at my local auto pro reckons he can get me some 9.7s with rings for a couple hundred bucks (haven't looked into it further yet) will the standard geu rods be sufficient or will I need to source out the earlier items

Secondly I am part way through putting a ke70 Xmember in my 28, will the front sump and pickup from an 18r ( rt104 I believe) suffice and if not what should be used

    Thanks in advance

i can only comment on what im going through with putting an 18RGTE into a KE70 with AE71 crossmember.....
... its not exactly a best fit.

Have had to modify the front sump to make more clearance for the crossmember.... cos the oil pickup is still rather "central" to the engine as opposed to way forward.
    See pics below.

So the pickup should work but more clearance required on the sump might have to blot it up to one of my bare rcs and take a few measurements

The 88270 (EFI) rods will be fine on the early pistons, so long as the early pistons are fine for your block (as in, they're not clapped out 2nd handies and your block hasn't been overbored).

Actually, speaking of rods, who's got their rods from where? Pricing? just doing some homework before I get stuck into my RG again.
