Yeah a bit strange but the KE10 is best suited to be a cruiser and the 1st engine i had in there was grunter 13BT/auto so the modded floorpan is set up for auto ie. no room for clutch pedal

Not to mention the weight balance with a monster 18RG up front won't make for something that corners on rails Cruising, skidz and straight line grunt with cool as induction roar will have to do

    Here's one for you moocow.
I was adjusting the valve clearances on my 18rg at a mates workshop. Y know, assemble, measure, disassemble, grind valve stem in refacer, reassemble, measure, disassemble, grind a bee's dick more. reassemble. Those collets are a bitch, but I finaly got all the exhaust valves set to .014" & in comes mate & says, "howya goin there Owen". To which I replied, "well I don't know for sure but I reckon this would be pretty similar to trying to fuck a fairy". He went off laughing, but went & told his Mr's. She now thinks I am a devo.
Getting some bigger shim pads this week for inlet valves, some new springs & go the whole process again this weekend. Before then I am going to turn up a little magnetic tool to put those fairy fuck collets in, or grind the pizzle out of the end of the spring compressor .

Spring compressors don't agree too well with 18R-G's... I had to make my own...

I must have missed something? Why grind valves when you should juts be swapping out shims?

Maybe... but couldn't be as dodgy as Rivers... especially after extensive rain...

I know when i had the head built for the 18RGTE they adjusted the valve clearance by grinding the valve tops, but that was because it has no shims direct valve to buckets.

Yeah it's a totally valid machining process but just wondering why, when swapping out some shims is a million times easier/cheaper?

BE STUFT ! . I am not going to wear being dodgy, you cheeky phalic members .
As justen said it is a valid machining process & I did it because to get shims is a hassle for where I live. The EX valves had a re cut so the gap closed by up to .007" & its a simple & expediant thing to tip thet .007" off the valve stem to get the correct clearance. IN valves are new & seats cut, valves ground, clearances are way off. I am getting shim pads for those. The shim pads are thicker than needed, all 4 are .100" & I will tip the valves the .003" to .006" required to get the correct clearances. Shim pads come in .002" increments. (dodgey)
My other twin cam had the head done by the recomended experts & when I got it back the valve clearances were from one end of the specs to the other, all in spec, but all over the place. NOW that is Dodgey.

I need to replace the throttle body on my efi setup due to the original one missing parts and not in real good condition. Does anyone know of another throttle body which needs little mods to fit?

Hi guys, we're in the middle of the 18RG conversion into my RA28 and it turns out I have an 18RC bottom end with a twin cam head. What does this mean? How is it going to affect performance? I'm guessing compression would be lower? Is there anything I need to be concerned about?

Also, the '5 speed gearbox' that came with the motor has turned out to be a W55/57 with an 18R bellhousing, not a W50. We've got it mounted in the car with a modified crossmember, the only problem we have is that the new W50 slave cylinder I bought obviously doesn't fit, the mounting is on the right hand side of the bellhousing and the W55/57 slave we had laying around didnt fit the 18R bellhousing either. Any ideas?

    Hi,

you'll need a slave cyl from pretty much any 20R corona or ra60 celica. Should do the job.

As for the 18rg with the 18rc bottom end. What makes you think it's a 18rc bottom end???? It would have to have modified pistons at least to work. There are a few differences between the bottom ends, but effectively the block, crank, and rods are the same. For extra help, throw some photos up for more help
