    I should clarify that.

10.5:1 is nothing on 98RON fuel with the right tune. If you're still running carbs/points I'd definately look at a locked dizzy with programmable ignition timing or at least a regraphed dizzy.

Also, much lower than that sort of compression and any cam changes would have to be pretty mild, otherwise your dynamic comp will drop too much.

My solexes are off getting the Rodger treatment so that is certainly something to bear in mind. I would like to put electronic ignition on it before it runs.

Go to Scorcher they are behind the Box Hill railway line and ask for a E418R model dissy and mate it with a Bosh HEC715 coil.

It will be the best thing you could do.

Static compression increases, when matched with longer duration cams will yield the same dynamic compression as the standard engine. If you run big compression on standard cams you might need to be more careful, but with bigger cams, there is a lot less risk of problems.

We haven't compression tested my brother's engine yet. I'll let you know how that turns out.

Josh. When my engine is running (22R crank and slight overbore), I'll can you for a drive. When you get yours done, you can take me for a ride.

Steve, once you get some revs up, the dynamic compression with lumpy cams will still rise significantly. Personally I would rather get a bit of knocking at low revs to warn me of danger than at 8000rpm.

Yep, take the old one out and bolt the new one in with the coil and time it in.

You never have to worry about points again.

Adam, lets us know what they charging these days for the dissy and coil because l think l paid about $500 over 10 years ago.

Will do.. reckon the purchase is a little while away.. added up all I need to spend in the next few months and the conclusion is I better slow it down a little!

I have some questions on 18RG Camshaft selection and Timing settings

In my array of 18rg engines and race parts, I have uncovered some serious go fast bits including various profiles on camshafts. What I cannot find out is what the profile of the camshafts are.

Does anyone knopw who can I talk too to have the camshaft profiles and lifts measured?? so I can work out what camshaft timing should be used to set these up for future builds. Someone in local Sydney would be handy........

In all the threads, can anyone direct me to information on setting up Camshafts for performance & race set ups.

    Thanks in advance.

    Rgds, Willofan

    Willofan,

Check where the timing sprocket secures onto the face of the camshaft.

Is there a number stamped into that face?
That's where Wade stamp their grind numbers.

We've identified a set of mystery camshafts that way.

well it has been a while coming ..but i applied some power to the starter in my rebuilt 18rgu...i was worried about the cam timing and if i had done this and that...guess what...???
The old thing burst into life within seconds....then stopped... So a quick trip to the local library weber rebuild info in hand pull the tops off and yep they are full of gunk. Carby cleaner and some air = rebuilt webers... OMFG it sounds awesome...

it has cams i got from jeffro28 (i think) i cant remember the details ...but im sure he did describe them as stage 5 bro... also bought some 9.7 pistons from jeffro again ...i think. has the 253 head with some minor porting ... twin 40mm webers. time will tell if it needs 45's but i am interested in reading about how to tune webers atm...very good carby i think....

should be all finished and at the track in a few mths...would love to maybe run low 15's..watch this space...

Leso - I can't recommend the 45 webers highly enough. Dana and I were both running them on our old engines, her's a 2/3TG (1800) and mine the 18RG. We've both now moved on to better power plants so our webers have/will be moved on. Her 45 DCOE's are still available if your interested.

    Hi,

keep in mind though most of the time 45mm webers are choked down to 38 or even 35........
