Last time I had an 18R-G tap like that was loose upper tensioner. Real easy fix.

That's a scan of every page of the 18R / 18RG workshop manual.

They come up fairly often on ebay (the printed manual), $20-$50 usually.

Just for future references regarding spark leads.
I bought Top Gun ones and they were shithouse! They may be cheap but yeh, u get cheap back.
Spotted a set of 2nd hand TRD ones on Yahoo, and thought wth, can't be any worse. Ending up being $50 aswell.

    Generic

Top Gun. notice lack of 90degree bend of the lead, and the caps don't even fit.

    TRD, Perfect!!!

You know its good shit when you see this. Shame my lead holder is snapped

    Hey all,

Just picked up a 18RG recently and got a few Q's

motor has been sitting in shed for about 9 months (thats when it was last run)
Is there anything i HAVE to replace before using it? i know ive had a few 4k engines have the water pump bearings die if sat for a while.

2nd, it came with no carbs but has the manifold. will 40MM DCOE webers fit? quick google has led me to belive they are same as the solex and minkuni (spelling) carbs bolt pattern wise.

3rd, if carbs do fit, whats a base jet size to start at? the carbs where off my 1.8L golf Engine.

now all i gotta do is find a car to put it in haha,

    Regards
    Dan

you should change the oil and water of course. yeah the dcoe carbs should fit, same pcd pattern on the inlet manifold.

as for the jet size, i dont know.

yeah, the oil/filters/plugs ect is a commonsense thing

good to know carbs wil fit, might hunt around on the net side for standard jet sizes on the solex's.

Seach these forums for "Classic Celica Index" and it has the list of various tachnical articles for classic Celicas. In there you will find a link to Solex. I think one of those threads will have it.

Any DCOE carbs will bolt up but you have to watch the throttle linkages, some of them will foul on the manifold. I had this happen years ago, can't remember what sort of carbs they were though.

    thanks norbie

And River, had a troll through that. main reason for asking is maybe the webers have different characteristics to the solex's?
