No other leaks I can spot...

Will check the water pump before I put the rad in.

Just trying to find where the damn thermostat goes.

    I hate these cars.

Ok, radiator is in and thermostat is in.

The reason it overheated is the main cooling fan is not functioning correctly.

Checked the fuse and it is cool, but I am unsure how to check if a relay is working? It could be worth bypassing all that crap and putting some power into the fan itself to see if it actually works.

just 12v the fan and check it works
if it does, swap the relay. it its no good...you now have a spare relay coz u can put the old one back in.
test for continuity in the wiring if its not the relay and the fan works with 12v.
wires suck, but theyre not too hard if u stop to think about it.

Ok, the diagnosis is a blown fan motor.

I'll be taking it to an auto sparky because I don't want to buy a $200 fan when it could be a $5 part in the fan that can be replaced.

There was no earth that I could see? Just two terminals, positive and negative.

The other fan (air-con fan), did have 3 pins which is weird considering it is a smaller fan.

just leave A/C on, the condensor fan should do the job keeping it cool.

my guess is that it will be the fan motor brushes. thera about $5 each to replace, probably cost you $50 from a sparky,

if you have a multimeter, check between the neg terminal (body harness side) and the body for continuity, should be very little resistance. the earth for the fan will go back through the wiring loom and earth somewhere else on the body.

if you wanna check the positive wiring loom between the relay and the fan, just make a shitty old jumper wire with spade terminals both ends. on the side of the relay or on the bottom it should have the numbers 30, 85,86,87.. refering to the numbers of the relay pins. connect the jumper wire to 30 and 87. make sure the ign is on and you should have power at the fan.

Nah I am gonna take to the electrician. It could cost me $50 rather than another $200.

it sounds like a fairly simple problem, colling fan circuits are not complicated. if a sparky cant find it within an hour id be goin elsewhere..
