Just put a one way valve in line with the existing hose, should be easy as!

What does the metal line that runs across the firewall join to at the other end? It should go straight teh manifolds..

It goes to the charcoal canister and the other end connects straight to the manifold for a vacumm source.

So Gibbon, your heating system works now all because of one 1-way valve?

There are two metal hoses that run the length of the firewall - one is the thick one that goes from manifold to brake booster. this one has the little connector for the cruise control.

The other is a little one that goes from manifold to charcoal cannister.

I haven't got the valve yet - having trouble trying to source one. I'm being told I need to order one in

    Anyone got one ??

In theory I should be able to run the heater off the same plug as the cruise control - but I haven't got enough tubing to try it out.

    Cheers

Yeh okay. I went into Toyota today asking for a 1-way valve because i need one too and couldn't find one in the EPC for a 7MGTE. Found one on a JZA80 model but it was something like $28! Stuff that. So i'm heading to some industrial shops tommorow to find one cheap.

James... That's so true, I did tell you about the anti-boost control I found for my car?

Gibbon, to help your frustration I'll get some photos to you...

I just got my heater working just then. I had my vacumm lines hooked up wrong. (please bare with the very techincal explination) What i did was, took the cd player out and checked that valve behind the cd player moved as i moved the climate control. So that was moving and i knew that was mixing the hot/cold airflows (but there just wasn't a hot airflow coming from the heater core). So i knew then that the heater core wasn't heating up. So i touched the hoses coming from the tap to the heater core and they were cold.

So then i checked the amount of vacumm the hose was giving to the water tap, which was virtually nothing. The problem was that i had hooked this vacumm line up to the throttle body nipple. I unhooked the other nipple on the manifold and found heaps of vacumm from that one so i re-arranged my hoses so the line to the vacumm canister (which then goes to the tap) came off the nipple on the manifold and walla, tap opened and hot water was flowing into the heater core giving a lovely rush of hot air from the heater!

I've still got to re-arrange my hoses so my one-way valve can go in somewhere and i'll draw up a diagram of my vacumm hoses later on tonight.

    Default MA61 + 1JZ + Heater problems - solved

    Solved

    Hell yeah

Two problems with the install. The lines coming off the vacuum cannister were around the wrong way. The center nipple is 'Vacuum in', the offset nipple is the 'Vacuum out'.

Second problem ( system seeing boost ) was solved by running a vacuum tube from the cruise control nipple (above the brake booster) to the 'Vacuum in' on the vacuum cannister and then have the climate control connected to the 'Vacuum out' of the cannister. No one way valve required

Thanks to everyone for the help - especially the Chuckster. +rep'ed

quick note to anyone contemplating buying 1-way vavuum valves - don't - wrecking yards are full of them and they fit into just about any pocket.

    Well done!
So does this mean your cruise control actuator is not 'protected' by a 1-way valve and it still works ok?
I don't have climate control, hence no vac cannister, so if I do have to use a source of vacum only I guess my best alternative is to tap into the brake booster after the 1-way valve. Any comments?

    Regards

Correct - the metal connector for the cruise control comes off the brake booster line, and unless I'm mistaken (which is more than possible) - that's a straight vacuum line - it never sees boost - therefore, doesn't need a one way valve.

I have connected my climate control to that connector, and it's now working - which says to me that it is a pure vacuum connection.

If you connect straight to that connector, you don't need a one way valve ( I don't, and it's working fine)

In my experience, when you dont have a 1-way valve on the hose that goes through the firewall to the DVV, when it sees boost and the climate control is on 'Auto', you get a rush of cold air like the fan is on high and temp is on cold.

From my experience with an MA70 turbo, the engine never sees boost when the cruise control is on. It relies on manifold vacuum to keep the throttle open, so any time manifold pressure gets too high the throttle closes - and when you think about it this is fine, you shouldn't need boost when cruising at a constant speed!
