why did you take the dizzy out to do the timing belt?
get top dead centre and line up the two marks on the cam gears with the two marks on the backing plate or wat ever it is easy![]()
hey fellas just doing my t/belt and wanted to know what marks there are on the engine to line up everything eg; tdc(white dot i marked)on zero, cams(i think dot on wheel to line up top with line on backing plate?)
Also how many teeth on the belt between dots on the cam gears
Distributor, how to re install that sucker
Could anyone explain TDC is it turn crank till dot lines up on zero and No.1 piston is at top of stroke?
I did try searching/google as well got nothing tangible.
All help appreciated

TDC - Top Dead Centre.. piston 1 at top of it's stroke, yep
There should be a dot on the cam wheels which lines up with a mark on the backing plate behind them, the crank can be figured out by using the harmonic balancer before you take it off or if you think it's out taking out spark plug no 1 and sticking something down into the bore to feel when it's at top dead is a good way to check

ah yes i neglected to say i did my h/gasket as well, thanks for the advice on those marks as i have done this once before and i thought thats what i had to do.
what about the dizzy i lined up No.1point on the cap(inside contact)and inserted the dizzy so that point lined up with the rotor.
What would happen if i missed a tooth on the belt would it start at least.
I am having trouble starting the bugger, would 5 month old fuel(premium)be a prob
Guy
5 month old fuel would definitely be a problem
drain the tank, put some fresh 98 octane stuff in there, take the plugs out and check they're not fouled - then try starting her again![]()
