Just interested to know if the Stock toyota 20v ecu can be reprogrammed like the commodore delco computers?
I have done a fair bit of searching and never read anything about this being done, but that doesnt mean its not possible.

Ok sounds like something I know nothing about, I am running a stock silvertop in my offroad racing buggy and just trying to get some small gains from it as there are 3 other guys locally running stock engines and ecu's that I wouldn't mind getting an edge over.
Any ideas for some cheap tips on gaining some performance?
Put in some jungle juice and get a piggyback controller to adjust your ignition timing?..
Water injection to raise static compression ratio?
Tuning the length of your exhaust and intake tracts? Swap in a Blacktop 20v?
I'll only guarentee the last option for a definate power increase![]()
Yeah I cant run any "jungle Juice" cams rules say pump fuel only.

Exhaust is probably as good as I will get it and the blacktop doesn't sound very cheap but thanks for the help anyway, I'm rebuilding a spare engine shortly and will probably just tidy up the inlet ports and manifold and i'm trying to see if there are any cams that will run with the standard ecu and vvt.
Got any info on the piggyback controller sounds interesting?

reason delco ecus are progreammable is that there are actually many many people out there mainly in usa who want to tune them so demand is very hi
where as toyotas might not be so much of a demand world wide
and also because toyota might have a much hard code to crack
where delco is usa based cars and they dont give a rats asss who fucks with there ecu
but when u look at what u can adjust in a std ecu like a delco there is over 20000 minute adjustments for this and that
Hammer ! thats funny, I figured that there isn't as many 20 valve ecu's as delco's so the chance of people bothering to crack it would be pretty slim but if you dont ask you dont know.
It's not just demand, it's also difficulty. Being able to reverse engineer something with a DIP eprom socket is much easier than something fully contained. There are piggyback ecu's that have injector drivers built in to allow more flexibilty... however probably not required as you haven't really modified the motor.
I use a Jaycar DFA with my 20V ST and by leaning out the mixtures slightly (done on the dyno with WB oxy sensor in place) as it was running rich up top they gained 3-4kw across the entire rev range. What are your mixtures like?

ideas for squeezing out a few more killowatts:
-run an electric water pump
-use lighter oil
-use some exhaust heat wrap
-try the 98 octane E10 fuel? (if they allow it, it is "pump" fuel though) its bound to allow a bit more advance and will effectivly lean it out a little bit, whether its by too much or not - unknown but the computer could compensate automatically?

I am really keen to keep the toyota ecu on the engine as I beleive that toyota must have spent millions of dollars developing these systems and they are just so reliable, but I still want to make it go better !
The engine has never been on a dyno or had the mixtures checked but I will be playing with it soon so it will be interesting to see what I can achieve.Originally Posted by FMS01
