    Default Brake bleeding/flushing question

I'm going to be fitting my big f*ck off brakes up soon, and will be doing a full fluid change too, as the stuff in there now must be 4 years old. I want to change to some nice DOT 5.1 like Motul or similar, but obviously want to avoid bleeding it dry as I have ABS. So my question is, is it ok if the DOT 5.1 mixes with the DOT 3 or 4 that's in there now, while i'm bleeding it out? I was planning to just keep topping up the res, and bleeding until only the new clean fluid comes through.

Is it going to destroy anything if it mixes?

Tooch - we did that on John's mini, we found for a complete change you want to use a vac pump as there were pockets where the old fluid didn't clear out, and it was still spongy

The glass is neither half empty nor half full, rather the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

My advise, get it driveable on cheap dot 4, then take it to the professionals. Its a bugger of a job and for the time you spend stuffing around (especially with ABS) its just not worth it. cost me NZ$45, probably cheaper if you are supplying the fluid yourself.

    Thanks guys

Callum, that was my other plan, I have a bottle of DOT 4 here that's unused, so I was considering doing that and then dropping the car off at the mechanics directly across the road from work so they can do it for me while I work
