    Default xA23 & xA28 Bonnet hinges

OK, while I was fitting up my bonnet I noticed that my lefthand (P/S) hinge is smaller in length then the D/S hinge is that normal? And the gap between the bonnet and plenum shows that it could use another 5-10mm in length. Is there differences between the celica families with this sort of hinge. Could I get a couple you guys to measure both your hinges and let me know what you have? Cheers

    Celicaboy,

You may have a TA22 and an RA23/28 hinge, ie one of each. Dispite popular opinion the hinges are different on the TA22 to the xA23 and RA28.

Its hard to measure accurately whilst they are on the car but does 180mm with the bonnet open sound about right.
There are different hinges from ta22 to ra series from memory
Measure the distance from your firwal to the top radiator support panel and see if they are the same both sides.
    cheers

My RA23 hinges are direct mirror images of each other.
I reckon, like rod said, you've got a TA22 one there somewhere.

    i've seen similar things myself!

I pulled a pair of bonnet hinges off a TA23 and went to fit them to my RA28 - no go.
I am not sure if they were TA22 ones bunged onto a TA23 or what, but they didnt fit.

REASONS - the face that bolts to the headlight mounting panel was a lot FLATTER on the TA23 one when compared to the RA28 hinge. The RA28 hinge has a distinguishable "step" on the inside lower mounting face on both hinges.
I tried fixing this with a washer..... only to find they are shorter too.

CONCLUSION - bought some brand new hinges from Phil from CCG
    ...... butt scratcher?!

My new D/S hinge measures about the 175mm so bout the same as airfireman1, where as the P/S hinges measures about 155mm, can anyone measure there TA22 hinges and let me know what measurements you get? But what I can work out and what you guys are saying it must be a TA22 hinge

Just got of the phone with Toyota, apparently early ta23 use the same hinges as ta22 and that they changed about the 76 era to the longer type. So if you have a good RA23/28 hinge PM me.

RA23 and RA28 hinges have a very distinguishable step for one bolt hole in their mounting onto the body.
