oh, remember that a model coed such as st202 can cover more than one model, ie st202s are celicas, currens and carinas
oh im sure.
also sure that cars with model numbers of st205 also came with the 3sge...
st205 also covers carinas not just celicas.
there are many many cars out there of model years 95-96 with gen 2s. ie celicas, currens, caldinas. i see them every day.
and im very sure about the cranks, iv double checked the part numbers before.

Actually, ST205 is also the model code for certain Curren, Corona and Carina models... odd jap models that we never see on this side of the pond - Mr Revhead is in NZ, so he probably does know what he's talking about.
Seeing as they're a T chassis the above cars probably did come with a Gen 2 3SGE option at one stage or another. I guess because we never see them that when someone says STXXX aussies just assume its a celica - we'll have to be more specific in future!![]()
haha oops didnt see your location mate..
wacky NZ models FTW !

Cos i'm bored (and curious) I looked it up the EPC. The SW20 MR2 3SGTE crank has two part numbers which i'd assume are for the Gen 2 / Gen 3.Originally Posted by Mr Revhead

Massive list, pretty much anything with a 3SGE Gen1 or Gen 2 engine in it from '89 thru to '94. Models listed: MR-2 SW20, Carina ED ST162+ST18#+ST202+ST205, Celica ST16# + ST18#, Curren ST206, Corona EXIV ST18#, Corona ST17#
13411-74909 (which i'd assume to be the Gen 3+4+5 Crank)
Altezza 3SGE ('98- ) (SXE10)
Caldina 3SG# '95-'01 (ST195, ST215)
Carina ED 3SGE '95-'98 (ST202, ST205)
Celica 3SG# '95-'98 (ST202, ST205)
Curren 3SGE '95-'98 (ST206)
Corona EXIV 3SGE '95-'98 (ST202, ST205)
Rav4 '96-'00 3SGE (SXA10,11)
*sigh* That's enough procrastination for one day me thinks.

Yup, my bad.
That'll teach me to post replies when I'm half asleep.
Years were about right though.
I've had all 3 types of motor in the past. Brain just wasn't working properly the other night when I made the post
went to look at some motors today, found a celica ST16# it had no motor in it but the compliance plate said 3SGELC. Any ideas on what gen? Whats the LC?
S.M.R
There is a method in the madness
Californian Emission's, i think they are rare in Australia, just from what ive seen kicking around, but definitely not sort after
I dont know much about them, but im pretty sure the head is fairly different to real 3S-GE's.
Id advise walking away from it even if the engine was present and in good nick.

NO
gen 1 crank is different, then gen2 onwards the SAME crank
gen 1 is PRE 89, ie st162 etc,
gen 2 is 89 onwards, ie sw20, st183 etc.
and yes, im in nz, though most of those models are JDM, we get imports
oh, and my job is using the EPC etc everyday....

yeah, i doubted that the gen1 and gen 2 crank were the same - I dont think i fully understand how to use this program yet. Why did it give me two part numbers for the SW20 '93-'98?![]()
So, do the gen 2,3,4,5 all use the same crank then?
Thanks for clearing that up!
yes all generatios after 89 use the same crank
the first number you see supercedes. as in in production it was either modified slighty, sourced from a different supplier, or they changed it coz the felt like it.
see how in the l/h coloum it says (subs) that mean that part no replaces the one above. you have to be careful though as sometimes that number is for an additional part needed for a supersession.
then under that it lists the s/s number as the only number. thats also the same number as the altezza crank.
the epc has a few tricks in in![]()
now, for the gen2 - gen 3 change. havnt looked to far yet. but it seems a little more complicated than i thought, with about 3-4 changes in the head from 89-99. with slightly differeing dates from the st### to the sw20
