yup 330mm is legal. And they must be 'soft-centred' if they came with one OEM; which counts for most cars I would think

I know this cause I've just downloaded vciroads import/mods pdf's last week.

I also know my little 300mm one is illegal. I went through a random breath-testing unit a few weeks back; and the copper said "you're lucky we're not doing rwc checks today mate" I was like WTF for??? and he pointed at my little go-kart steering wheel.
"its gotta have a soft centre blah blah and its too small"

I very nearly piped up with "if thats the best you can find....."but bit my tongue instead, wisely I think.

    thats interesting

i know that most companies have disclaimers on their products to cover their asses. such as mountain bike brands that sell their top end bikes as 'not suitable for offroad use'

i've not seen any steerring wheels for sale in WA that are smaller than 330 mm off the shelf.

as for the minimum legal size i've not yet seen it while scouring through my copy of the ADR.

seen afew westfields with 11' steering wheels in them too.(wish i knew where they bought them

apologies for the rule of thumb but a rule of thumb is just a general guide after all.

whatever deems your car unroadworthy seems to vary from state to state in any case.

so yeah if u really need to know that badly y not ask a police officer or one of the vehicle inspectors at a licensing depot. (park your car out of sight)

whoot 'replacement wheel should not be less than 330mm in diameter'

    legality is all about wording

'should not' states itself as a recommendation

whereas 'replacement wheel must not be less than 330mm in diameter' would state a requirement.

that said every sane person would just make life easier for themselves for doing whats recommended.

but if u like to stir shit with the finer points of legislation then go see and engineer and get them to give you and engineers compliance.

Then you will need to have your wheel tested as to the amount of force required to turn it... what a PITA and costly too. 330mm is fairly small, and is reasonable enough for most of us long legged fellows to get our knees under. Plus its still a reasonable size for swinging quickly.

if you did your calculation on inches 13 inches = 330.2 mm

    1 inch is 2.54 cm

well thats what it was last time i checked

    i agree

i will also add that any good quality steering wheel, especially leather ones, usually come in 14' sizes and no smaller.

momo are about the only company i know that provide a 13' leather steering wheel and that comes at a hefty cost (cos it's momo)

not sure y but thats just the way it is here.

When I bought my last AW11, it had a tiny steering wheel on it - I would be around 300mm (lol thanks wiso). And it was great! It was a bit heavy at low speeds, which was fine (macho macho man) but I think 330mm would be perfect.

330mm it is. Bring on teh Nardi 330mm deep corn with 50mm offset.
