Default What purpose does this bracket on the underside of my car serve?

    Gday lads,

What we're looking at here is the drivers side floor of my car, a ke20 corolla. Facing forward, not far from the front leaf mount as you can see. The bracket is on the underside of the car below the rear right corner of the front footwell, right where you'd put the mounts for the main hoop of a rollcage (the reason why its in the way, i cannot get plates on the underside)

As you can see in the pics, i'd started working at it, and have since taken both off. My intention is to make new brackets and weld them on 10cm further down so its out of the road. If i can't work out what it is, this is what i'll do, but if we can work out what the actual specific purpose of it is, i can be a bit more calculated about it to make sure it serves the same purpose.

    Any ideas?

    Cheers

Maybe that is where you are meant to put the jack under the car...so when you jack it up the sill doesn't distort...????????

    My guess any way...

Are you talking about the ones in-between the two bolts?

I have very similar ones on my honda civic and is at exactly the same location of the jacking points. I assume they are re-inforcement.

Angle grinder has been out already

I can't greatly see how it'd help with jacking the car to be honest, but maybe the stock jack would go over the sill and onto that bracket, and the car on other side of the sill?

It doesn't seem feasible that it would make any structural difference

The bolts you see are for the cage of course

Just relocate it. It is there for sort of strengthening. But I guess the cage will do more of that and in better areas ;-)

Definitely the jacking point for the factory scissor jack.

This being the case, i won't put it back on. Scissor jack won't be going anywhere near the sides of my (now) straight car

    Thanks lads, confirmed my thoughts.
