Default Walbro Install - MA61 Circuit Opening Relay Contact Rating

Just putting my Walbro in, and was looking at the current draw/ratings on the pump. As other people have mentioned I will upgrade the body wiring to avoid such a large voltage drop to the pump. I have a couple of questions to those who have experience with running them in the car:

    a) the Walbro is capable of drawing a lot more current than the stock pump. Has anyone had issues with burning out/overheating the circuit opening relay contacts?

    b) the Circuit Opening Relay is fed via the main relay, which is fed via the 15 amp EFI fuse. I notice the Walbro says it should be protected by a 20 amp fuse. So has anyone had issued popping the 15 amp EFI fuse after the installation of their walbro?

    Thanks

    Peter

My Walbro was just chucked in my car and has been running flawlessly since the day I did it, about 30000km ago now.

One thing I would suggest though, is upgrading the run of wiring from the Circuit Opening Relay to the pump itself, and giving it a good ground. I say this, because the voltage drop down my factory wiring was apalling. I'd have about 13-13.5V (? from memory) when running at the COR, and like 11V at the pump. I replaced it with some nice new wiring, and created a new earth at the rear of the car, and the voltage drop is stuff all now.

    Hope that helps.

In my silver car I had this issue, just ran some nice heavy gauge wire from the relay to the pump. No issues. In the white car the walbro went straight in, is receiving a nice healthy 12.7 volts from factory wiring. Just one of those things I guess....

Thanks guys - looks like I'm safe with the relay then.
I'll make sure I run some extra cable back to the pump.

I'm using the generic external one from Importbitz. I'm assuming Peter is as well, given he has an external one too.

Ebay is your friend. Search GSS341 or 342. Just make sure it's genuine! There's lots of knock offs around

Yep - I got mine off ebay (Importbitz were out of stock). The guy gives 100% guarantee they are genuine, and seems to have enough links to verify his claim.
The part no for the external one is GSL 392.
The only problem is I needed extra fittings (the universal fittings they supplied don't fit my application). Couplers in Malaga soon sorted that out.

BTW, Couplers in Malaga have always been champs and helped me out with random stuff like that.

The inlet barb supplied with it was only 10mm, I needed half inch - that was easy.
On the outlet side, I'm still trying to retain the pulse damper/banjo arrangement. I think between Couplers & a fuel injection plac I should be able to get it sorted out. If not I'll just do what you did.

    Yes - more than AU$160.
It has three numbers on it:
    - the part number
    - the patent number
    - five digit number I assume is the serial number.

Cool, just making sure it was legit.
All of the ones on eBay that are new and under $150 are fake.
