2T-G's make the same power, id sell the 18R-G for $5-600 and buy a 2T-G for $400, use that until your 3T-GTE is fixed.
18R-G's in TA22's are an abomination.
hey everyone, as most of u already know my turbo on my 3tgte is dead, and i have an 18rg sitting here.
i have been thinking, how hard would it be to just do a temporary 18rg drop in while i fix my 3tgte.
any info would be great.
all i can think of that needs modification is the x member, exhaust. and turn off the fuel pump.
will a 4-5psi elec pump suck the fuel through the vl turbo pump in my boot?
thank you

Wont be able to pull 'through' the VL pump ... put the lowPSI one in its place.

Hi,
TA22 engine and g'box crossmembers are wrong for an R series engine and W5# series g'box.
R series engines are mid sumped, so you'll either need to mod the sump or mod and swap in an RA2# series crossmember. You'll then need to deal with the g'box crossmember and tailshft. An auto TA22 or RA2# tailshaft will do the job, then you'll need to do the g'box crossmember.
It's a bit of work...
Cheers

Valkyrie, the 18Rs are actually mid sumped, which is the problem. 2Ts are front sumped. You CAN pull through a VL pump as they are a centrifugal pump. Heck, the pump will even generate electricity for youbut not that it will be terribly useful as you wont have a proper voltage regulator for it, and it probably will only give you 5-6 volts.
Personally I would say forget that kind of effort... just concentrate your efforts on getting the turbo fixed asap. Stock CT20s can be picked up pretty cheap, and may be a good get you going fix while you build a bomb proof turbo... also lower your boost so you dont blow another up

Hi,
Hehehehe..... you think so?Originally Posted by Screamn_Sleeka

The easiest thing, assuming you need an engine desparetly while your current engine is being fixed, would be to get a old 2T-G or even just an old 2T engine. It will bolt in and get you about (while you work on your main engine).

i think i like the idea of just fixing my engine, i just thought if it was easy enough i would just do the rg and drive it. o man - sorry about the delay on your parts im getting them packaged up for you now, and i was only running 12 psi, it was still working when i pulled it out just wont spin at idle anymore.
valkerie - i have a w57 in my car now. so yer not that much, thus my 18rg thought but the engine x member is the issue so yer.
thank you everyone

NP with the parts mate. And also the stock turb if I am correct has ceramic blades, which dont like more than 14psi, but sounds more like bearing trouble to me if it works but wont spin at idle. I still reckon get another stocko one cheap to get you going, and then save for a conversion to a ballbearing Garrett or similar.

lilcrash,
First of all... you don't need to worry about changing engines (unless your really set on doing some major mod's to the 3t and still want to keep the 22 on the road) if cash is the issue, then you shouldn't be spending extra $$$$ on a different conversion.
3tgteu solution = this could be a blessing, upgrade the turbo. If you want a simple effective soluotion to your turbo problem buy a second hand CT26 and modify the bolt patteren to bolt on to the 3tgt manifold (Good low cost upgrade and conversion). You should be able to get out of the whole thing for about $500. Being of the CT series turbo's most of the plubing is the same. Oil / Water are fairly well good to go but obviously the exhuast would need to modded. It's easy as, I've done this on a handful of 3t's with good results. If you need more details PM me.
18rg swap = if your really set on putting the 18rg in then your going to need a corona front sump and pick-up, w55 with clutch assembly, an auto gear box cross member and tailsharft (To bolt in the w55 box), engine mounts (if the 18rg is a jap import out of a corona you should be fine, just need some holes drilled and or to slot the engine in), mod the exhuast to fit. As TA-022 said just replace the high pressure pump with the low pressure one... maybe even easier to have the low pressure pump, pumping directly to the carb's, otherwise use the standard mechanical pump. The 18rg conversion is on par with the 3tgt, however it does lack due to not having a turbocharger. Having a turbo is always cooler, dynamic power man. I've had a few 18rg powered 22's and for one I think it's a great combination... It's even better turbocharged, a CT26 goes really well on the side of a 18rg. If you have doubts about the old 18rg being forced fed you should speak to GT8 aka Justen Simpson, he use to have a freakin sweet 18rgt. 300+ HP on about 18-20psi.
Anyway, I'll get down from my soap box and wish you the best....
What ever you think is the right choice, good luck with the conversion and have fun with it.
