mmm.... sounds just like the problem i have/had...

i have an ae92 with who knows which 4agze... it turns out, that the person i got my engine from wasnt as smart as he thought he was and the engine/loom/computer are like mixed and matched.... meaning that they didnt realli go together... therefore they dont run together all that smooth.

mine stalls and idles... or should i say dosent idle... its up and down and not level.. or very rarely...

if you got the engine from sum one not so smart like me... then i may suggest you have the same problem... possibly try running an aftermarket comp...???

my problem is going to easily be overcome by taking of the scretching lil supercharger and putting a turbo, wolf 3d aftermarket... and heaps of other kool stuff.... i will have to post sum pics... my lil baby is starting to look pretty sweet

sorry for hijacking the thread, just thought it was relevant and similar.

err i tried to post a reply in the other thread but its not letting me... hmm ok.

hmm how easy is it to do the thing in the thread?

if i have to change the starter solenoid, would I have to change the whole starter then? How much would that cost roughly?

If you want to change the solenoid its better off to get the starter recoed at an auto electrician. i think i payed $200(not 100% sure on it).

If your handy with a soldering iron and know a little bit about electrical stuff/car audio you should be able to do it.

ok, I just got a quote for $275 to put a brand spanking new starter motor in , and fixing my speed throttle cable.

Is this a good price? Need to know ASAP as getting the car in tomorrow (can cancel it).

    Thanks.

Well the mechanic put a new starter motor in, and it seems like its starting everytime. Its been pretty warm though, so dont know whether its working fine yet. On many occassions, I start the car but then the revs drop completely and I have to start it again. I also have to give the car some throttle when starting. It seems as long as I give the car some gas when I start it, it will run fine.

I have no idea what the hell is happening. Going to complain to the mechanic tomorrow.

    update:

The car sometimes doesn't start at all, it just makes the clicking noise, back to square one. I guess its not a starter motor solenoid problem, since I replaced the starter motor. Rolling starts are fine.

Apart from that, car still has a problem on cold starts with it kicking over then stalling straight away UNLESS if i give it some throttle. Also sometimes when I'm braking and rolling to a stop, the revs would drop below 300RPM. It stalls unless if I give it some throttle.

you will probably find you have a very simple problem. give this a whirl, it will most likely fix it, i have had this problem on almost every toyota i have owned.

anywhere, you mount it where ever you want. all you have to do is hook the wires up right, note your car will not have the wire, you have to make it all. you will also need a few metres of wire, spade connections and eylets to.

maybe get an auto elec to do it if your not confident, will cost between $60-90 for them to do, takes about 20mins

ahh ok, thanks for the info.

mechanic fixed it finally, it turned out to be a problem with the starter not getting enough power, so he put a booster relay for it.

    thanks for everyones help.
