Based on feedback to my post on expressions of interest, here's what I think is best in terms of organising a Motorkhana team...

We'll enter the MaxAuto Action series starting in July. There is a series starting this weekend and running until June, but I think we need more time to get organised. So, for all of those interested, can you drop me a line to say "count me in". You don't have to compete in all the events if you don't want either, just let me know what you want to do. Also gives people a chance to head down and check things out and see if they're interested. I'm going down on Saturday morning (Belmont Park carpark) to see how it goes.

So, basically you'd need to organise a minimum CAMS 2NS license, which would involve being a member of a CAMS-affiliated car club. Price for this would cost around $80 all up (club and license with the cheaper options).

Have a Toyota that you'd like to compete in.

Enter the series or individual events. Costs $68 per event on the day, or $10 off per event if you book for the whole series and pay in advance (5 rounds and finals). Need the usual helmets, long clothing, etc.

Basically, this series is an individual competition, where the fastest time around the course, including penalties/handicaps determines the winner. And there are classes for different types/age of vehicles, with winners in each.

As for our team, well we enter as individuals, but indicate when we compete that we are part of team "XXXX", then at the end of the series a winning team can be determined on points. So, assuming others enter as teams, that's how we'll be compared. This means people can enter events as they wish, and yet be part of the team if they are there. Relieves some of the pressure of trying to organise enough numbers for each event. Still, it would be good to have a minimum of 3 people for each event.

    Dates are:
    July 16
    August 20
    September 17
    October 15
November 18 and 19 (choice between Sat AM, Sun AM or PM)
    December 10 - finals

All bar the November dates, allow us to choose to compete AM or PM. So, think about which you prefer.

I have lots of other information for those that indicate an interest. There is also a Yahoo group for this series you may want to join/subscribe to:

    http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MaxActionGroup/

    Team name-wise, do people like?
    - Team Toyota
    - Toyota Team Perth (TTP)
    - Old Skool Toys (OST)
    - Tarmac Toyotas

Or some other clever name? Baring in mind some people may not be OST people (although highly encouraged!)

Mitch and I are planning on competing in our Celicas, and possibly have 2 others (Stepho and Clint) with Celicas also. Matty, Adam and I think Rob indicated they might have been interested? And Damo, if he gets over his desire to win or not compete at all

Very good Matty! Glad to have you on board.

Eldar, sorry to hear that (we didn't get organised quickly enough - unless some of us feel like a one-off run this series with Eldar?). Maybe when you get back? Hopefully, something like this may be a regular thing? See how it goes...

I'm curious to see how the name voting goes ;-)

july is great as I get my licence back in may.
    So count my arse in.
Name wise I love the voting thing 100% for OST and 33% for two of the others
just wondering if OST would exclude some people or are we going to ignore the 1990 cout off, cos Clint drive a post 90's st205. so yeah thats my 3 and a half cents.
Can someone with enough brain power figure out what is the cheapest option for 2NS ticket and tell me when their getting it so I can get monies together and get them all at once. And also tell me when to pay up for the events if I decide not to pay all up.

    What??? A 1990 ST205???

He didn't tell me that! That's him excluded then

Nah, I think even if we go with the OST name, we'll be flexible. Unless the OST team say no bloody way. In which case, the name may go the way of one of the other more generic ones. But I don't think the OSTers are too peticular?

ST205 Aus spec is 1994, the JDM ST205 is 1996.

Having competed in these events for years, most of the "OST" cars won't be competitive, but you'll have fun with them. I'd propose you determine how competitve you want to be before you worry about names, dates, places and times - I've done the "just for fun" events, and would really like to step up to a more focused attack on times and results.

Well Gene, my Holiday overseas is from june 25th to August 5th or 6th, it aint a long one... i dunno if i can compete in the events when i get back?

Not being able to stretch the supras legs is really killing me, on boost, i hit the speeed limit inside 5 secs or so, and there really isnt any oportunity to test out the cars handling without looking like a hoon or driving recklessly, as such, i havent really seen what it can do.

OK, thanks for that information Clint.

Being a first-timer, as probably most others, this will be a bit of fun and hopefully learning for us. That is how competitive we're aiming for at this stage. But in order to get started, especially as a team, it's now on to planning dates, etc. that suit people. And the team naming part, is just part of the fun and getting interest going.

You sound experienced and your feedback is appreciated. If what we're looking at isn't inline with your goals for the competition, no problem. I'm sure there's room for all ambitions in such events... I hope

    Exclamation Re: Motorkhana Interest?

By-the-way, I may have mentioned going down to check-out the MaxAction motorkhana on Saturday morning.

It is only on in the afternoon Saturday, and then all day Sunday. So, just in case you were going to join me looking at an empty car park, don't go in the morning!

Dom, a.k.a "Dominic" on the forums was a very frequent participant in that motorkhana, he drives a green RA28.

Ok so i'l go down there in the arvo then

I dont think we would need to enforce a pre 1990 rule for the motorkhana if we ran under the OST name. Lets face it there wont exactly be many "newer" cars down there running with us, except for maybe clint, although it seems he may not participate with us cos he is too hardcore for us novices

Im with you on this one Gene, im in for a bit of fun and tryin to go quick aswell. But im pretty sure i wont be winning anything, so long as im havin fun
Im sure most people will agree with that, as none of us really have track cars, except for clint.
    Bring on the FUN!!!!!!

    Cheers
    Matty

P.S. vote for the OST name or else................................. i'l send my Bosnian mate round to sort you out
