you read about more than you work on obviously.

the reason i like C/O or Offset/Offset mufflers is due to the fact that they reduce noise heaps more than a straight thru muffler and its more due to the fact that there is a change in direction therefore the pulses are pushed more towards the perforated tube than going straight down the guts.
the extra 10% in length does f#*ckall, that i can prove by changing from a 14" muffler to a 16" with negligable difference in noise betwee the 2 if they're straight thru but a large difference if they're C/O.

This is the sort of thing that would appear to be effective:

Or even have a nice quiet, and perhaps even restrictive exhaust, but flip the QTEC switch and say hello to the screamer

Noise travels in all directions, exhaust flow barely does unless under reasonable pressure... i.e. back-pressure.

Go look at a Genie Offset Muffler, the actual bends at either end are non-perforated, there's a reason why.

I've looked at many genie mufflers among other brands and 90% of the time the whole section inside is perf but i supose it depends on exactly which ones you buy.

the question i have for you is how many exhauts have you built? or is all your information from wikipedia?

as for the backpressure comment how much do you think there would be in a 3.5" exhaust? i can tell you what weve measured but id like your calculations to see if im doing my job properly

    Hey Karl,

I'm pretty sure I am coming to Toyotafest, so it will be great to do a comparison there

    Hi,

    I have a Toyota Soarer GZ20 with a 1g-gte and a 2.5" catback exhuast with a cannon.
It drones very bad, I'm going to get a nice dual tip muffler.

Even though i want to eliminate the drone, is there any way to make the exhuast sound "tougher", like the type of note from the Subaru WRX exhuasts. I'm after something more rippy and choppy like the WRX's, and less flat and drony.

Put a WRX motor in it? A flat 4 is always going to sound different to a straight 6 (although if you hole a piston a 7M running on 5 sounds quite a bit like a rex, maybe try taking a lead off?)

Dont want it to sound exactly like a WRX, but similar, something more tough sounding, cant quite explain it. Dont want to run straight pipes because thats just asking for a defect, been reading through the mufflers people reccomended, just dont know how it will sound with my setup.
