    Default ke70 overheating problem!!!

hey guys i just got me a ke70 yesterday
now the thing drives nicely but the problem wen i bought it was that the temp guage didnt work and also ther was no coolent in it
the previous owner used some white inhibiter stuff in the radiater and wen we put water in the radiater and turned the car on it went white
but the car seems to drive fine at low speeds but today along the m2 hittin up towards 100 and cause its 3 sp auto its revving .. i pulled up and ther was steam comin out of the bonnet
so let it cool down and then yes there was fluid in it at thats stage and then drove home at 60 and then it didnt seem to overheat goin home
but wen i got home i found where ther temp sensor had coem off so connected that up and also saw there was no fluid again in teh radiator
so ther is a leak somewher but wen ive left the car sitting so far or even wen its running i cant see wher its coming out and it leaves no puddles i think
wat u think the problem is!! just cause it doesnt like revvin up high for a while or ther could be a block in teh radiator somwher and also a leak!!

oh yeh and i drove it to work tonight and the temp reads 3/4 while driving
and on the way home sittin on 80 with it still reading 3/4 i pulled up at a set of lights and the car stalled
turned it back on and it stalled again
so i just let it sit for a couple mins and then it started and drove fine again!!

    im guessing corroded head
either that or check the rad for little cracks. i have one in my top tank that only leaks out on really hot days when you turn the car off and coolant heats up even more.
but every coupla weeks i have to refill the radiator, i think my head is starting to leak into cylinders.

fwiw mine runs at the first mark on the gauge after the start, the one before halfway
the mark on the other side of halfway is getting a bit close to 100 man.

im assuming it has the fan on it still?
is the radiator core falling to peices or is it still pretty healthy?
i wonder if the rubbish the guy before you put in the rad has blocked it up or something...
    try new rad maybe....

check thermostat, might not be opening properly...

    hope i helped

dont just "take it out" that will increase the overheating problem in most cases (heres a thought, does it have one in it?)
if you wanna check it, take it out, drop it in boiling water, on a stove or something, and watch to see if it opens all the way...
if it doesnt buy a new one and test that. yes test the new one. ive been caught out before....
if your too cheap to spend the 10 bucks on a new one but want to see what happens without a thermostat in...well without a thermostat the water flows too fast and doesnt cool down in the radiator. so i suggest taking out the thermostat and cutting off all of the mechanism part so all you are left with is just the little cap, basically a ring that sits in and the "bridge" over the top of that. which will stop the water tear-arsing up and trying to break through the top of the thermostat housing. it wil diffuse it and slow it a little to aid the water cooling in the rad.

shouldnt be doing more than 3500 at 100 anyway

which means it shouldnt be overheating at all

What colour is the oil? Sounds like what Dale said.
My KE20 had a blown head gasket and the oil went white (however the water was just dissapearing... into the sump). It kind of laboured more than a 3K engine should and took a while to start (there was hydraulic lock .. eep .. didnt know what was wrong with it at the time).
Changed the head gasket (got a cheap one for $19) in an afternoon and it's been working fine since.

Does it have trouble starting when its cold, might seem like the battery is a bit flat. That would be head gasket or a issue with the head at worst and may not show up in your oil as coolant may be leaking straight into the cylinder and creating hydraulic lock (causing hard to start). Hope this helps

    Cheers
    David
