late model ecus like 1jvvti and 2j and late model 1uzs have 3 or 4 solenoids on the auto
the problem is the newer autos run 2 wires per soleniod and both wires go back directly to the ecu

where as the older autos have one wire from ecu to solenoid and then either solenoids have a common earth or the solenoids have a common power

i have tried to run an old crown 1uz auto cause it had a slip yoke onto a late model 1uz
which has 2 wires per soleniod back to ecu

the car would not change gears properly and just felt sort of sluggish

we ended up rewiring the newer std auto back into it then gettin a tailshaft with bung made up

the car went so much better
    it transformed it

so i guess the ecu was in limp mode

at end of day if your goin to not run the orig auto then why stick with toyota auto

it would be less hassle to either go manual
or fit a th400 or any hydraulic auto

if you are worried about taking cars to shops they why the fuk own one

or find someone who actually takes care when u leave your car there

ive heard theres not too many good workshops in WA hehehehehe
    maybe thats the main problem

bring it to sydney and get it fixed properly heheheheheeheh

i dont take the car to shops for one not one shop will respect your car as much as you would yourself. 2 everytime i have taken my car to a shop something else has been fuked on it which i had to fix anyways and 2 i do everything myself which then i know its done properly and if it doesnt work then i havnt spent hundreds off $$ for someone else to tell me it doesnt work.

and for another fact who do you think works on your car 90% of the time. a new apprentice which would know just as much as i would and maybe less or a guy with years of experiance and will be able to fix the problem hands down without even looking at the car.

i dunno why everyone is telling me what i should and shouldnt do. all i asked was if the shafts inside the autos were interchangable. and obviously nobody knows 100%

People are taking the time to give you information and options. Perhaps you haven't found the exact information you want just yet, but that's no cause to get narky at everyone; a little gratitude goes a long way.

dude i know where your coming from but i asked if changing the axcels would work. not what should i do i have no idea what im doing ect ect. i wasnt getting narky at anyone but was trying to keep people to the topic.

the only gratitude ill give is to people keeping to the topic and answering my question to the best. not telling me what i should and shouldnt do. and just because i say something like that is no reason to get all narky yaself and give me bad rep for it. and if me saying this gives me even more bad rep so be it but people need to realise that these are people looking for information not people that are looking to be told what to do unless that is the information they are looking for.

no hard feelings but that is my 2 cents

now can anyone answer my question genuinly

Dude, this is the line that left it open for people to suggest other ways than what you had in mind. You did (indirectly) ask what you should do...

In terms of accepting advice, you're happy to go by what your tailshaft guy assessed (without technical explanation so it seems) but you seem to be rejecting the countless experiences people have had with exactly what you wanted to do....

Personally I thought Norbie was very eloquent, he's not normally that nice

Staying on topic, while what you want to do ends up with the neatest solution, it offers its own set of problems. My personal view is that you won't end up with something that the factory could've released even though you may end up using all factory components - this view is mainly held due to the effort the workshop is likely to make to come up with a solution.

If you have the boxes and the skill required to do the work start pulling it apart and tell us what you find...

I can tell you how it goes when I get round to mine - I'm doing it with a guy who's been working with autos for years, and he seems to think it's quite doable - however the cost of gaskets etc. involved far outweighs what I've ever paid for a custom driveshaft. For the time being, I've used a Crown slip yoke box, and will rebuild/beef up the auto while it's apart. I'm butchering an old 7M box for parts.

On the question of driveshafts, can't say I've ever had a problem. The guy I use, I just take the parts I want to use to him, tell him the measurement, and he calls me when it's done - usually same or next day. Never had one that didn't fit yet...

Also, if I wanted the little tantrums, I'd go watch McLeod's Daughters.
