why dont you track down one of those old toyota crown V8s? the engine is pretty much a copy of a hemi with smaller capacity- 3.5 - 4 litres.
they sound pretty good and i dont think anyone has messed with em much, even though you can still use all the hemi bolt ons- thatd be interesting.
p.s there are NO ignition only ecus. haltech made a 1g/3/4/5 but they stopped a while ago. Only thing you can do it get a full on ecu and just not use the fuel side of it.

What years where the thos V8's in crowns? I thought the older crowns used the M series and some the R's...

the kiwis are miles ahead of us un 1uz development
they use a 2inch plenum arrangement with a holley bolted to it
the distibutor is a chev item ,driven off the left hand cam gear
a search in some of the 1uz wenb sites show you how it is done
