something else to look out for ....

I put my new carbs on last week and for a few days they were sweet car idlied and ran
smooth as, then sprung a major fuel leak. i checked underneath the carbs and felt it was
very wet under No.2 carb came off and found this:

in the first pic there is a hole in the upper right.

Obviously cleaned with some very acidic cleaner in the past that ate the alloy and the fuel
pressure punctered the alloy, then split a diaphram. oozing petrol all over the starter leaving
a puddle on the ground. gaskets had also failed, they where very wet soft and gooey.

    cheers

    Geez...

The fuel leaking from Carbie No. 2 was the exact reason I took those carbies back in to get fixed under warranty...

Surely he must have noticed that!

He told me that he re-machined the face of that part so that it would sit nice a flush and seal alot better...

Well, I'm never recommending - removed by river due to liability laws (sorry) - again...

I'm very sorry that this has happened, and I'm glad that you were able to resolve the problem!

Whilst we are on the subject i thoroughly wouldn't reccomend a bunch of dunderclump cretins who I cannot say in public, so PM me for their name in Ringwood, my carbs have stuffed up again after going back 4 times and spending close to $1000 on them

Not sure about the warranty actually, never really thought of it. I'm not going back to that guy, i havn't even bothered to ring him, i dont want to know im anymore. I'm just moving on to another place, hopefully these guys won't fix it and work for 2 weeks then break down.

    Man you're crazy!

You should take it back to the guys that fixed it in the first place as they should have a warranty...

What is wrong with the carbies?

He just has an excuse for everything, his main one is "they are performance carbs and they are always breaking down, they arn't made for everyday driving" and also "i didn't look at that last time so it's not my fault it broke down". Also the fact that he charges a fair bit aswell.

I started up the car this morning and started idling real low so as i was backing out the driveway i was giving it a bit more juice and it was backfiring heavily, so i thought it might just be cold, so i took it down the street and back, was driving really stuffed (jumpy ect) so i stopped and it just died within 3 seconds. Went to start it again and it wouldnt start (was cranking though) so i put foot to floor incase it was flooded but still nothing.

This place i went to drop the car off this morning was literally full of classic adelaide (a9x toranas, monaros ect), racing porsches, racing ricers ect. So i think they may have a better idea than the last guy, especially since solexs were the "racing carbies" back in the day. Although with this "prestige" type business would probably come with a hefty price tag to find out and fix whats wrong with them.

The first guy shouldn't charge you anything regardless if "he didn't look at that last time"... If you had them re-built, then you had them re-built and any problem you have should be fixed without charge!

Thats exactly what i told him when my pilot jets needed to be replaced, but he just said that to me! His theory is probably: rebuilding = new gaskets + shitty tune.

Rebuild should include a thorough fault diagnosis, end of story. What a dick stain.

    Hi,

    Yes, go to someone else.

Twentyeight, I had to edit out the name of the company (in your post) as these being public forums we could be liable if slanderous (etc) comments are directed against a named company.

Sorry about that - but I just wanted you to know why I edited it out of your post.

River, although I know how stupid the laws are getting, surely Toymods has a liability statement saying that the opions and expressions of individuals are not necessarily those of Toymods (or in KM's case, not necessarily those of a human being ) and therefore cannot be prosecuted for an individual's comment when they are not representing the Toymods club, but representing themselves as a public forum contributer??

Sorry for the OT, but its sorta not OT... You know that I know that you know that I know that you know what I mean

    Huh.... I think so...

I'll check the liability clause of the Club/Forums later to confirm, but I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to name a company and slag them on the public Toymods forums. However, I'm sure you can PM all and sundry.

Anyway, let's get back OT and in the interim I'll get clarification regarding the public naming of dunderclump companies.

In the meantime, I suggest the other person who has identified a dunderclump company would edit their name before River spies it.

    Hi,

    Too late!

Joey, I had to edit your post where you named the company, for the same reasons as I mentioned a couple of posts ago. Sorry about that, as I don't wish to edit others posts, but in this case I have to due to Forum rules.
