    Default EGR on ST162 3SGE

    I've got 2 ST162s with 3SGEs, one is a series 1 (Austo) and the other a series 2 Manual). Both engines are missing alot of this EGR plumbing. They definitely don't have the EGR Valve and EGR Vacuum Modulator.

    On the series 1, there is no BVSV (EVAP) or BVSV (EGR). The line from the charcoal canister goes directly to the Throttle Body rather than to the (missing) BVSV (EVAP). On the TB the outlets for the EVM are non existant. Also there is no pipe going from the non-existant EGR Valve the the Exhaust Manifold.

    On the series 2, the lines from the BVSV (EGR) are blocked off. The outlets for the EVM are also blocked off. There is no pipe going from the non-existant EGR Valve to the Cylinder Head.

    The series 1 car works fine, the series 2 car is in pieces at the moment.

    Is this a standard setup on a 3SGE?

    JDM engines didn't have EGR. When you say the outlets are blocked off do you mean that it looks like someone has removed the EGR or that it was never there in the first place?

    That pic does show the standard EGR setup on the Gen 1 engine.

    On the '88 (series 2) engine, the outlets on the Throttle Body for the 2 hoses that go to the EGR Vacuum Modulator have been stopped off with little red plastic stoppers. On the '86 (series 1) engine these same outlets are absent all together. May be both my engines are JDM. What is going to tell me if they are JDM other than the absence of EGR, and excuse my ignorance, but what is JDM?

    JDM = Japanese Domestic Market.

    Sounds like your Series 2 is an Aus spec with the EGR removed. The Series 1 may be Jap spec, are you able to post up pictures of the heads + manifolds in question?

    This (should be found under the hood of both cars) gives you a bit of a guide of what goes where. sounds to me like someone canned the EGR system altogether, perhaps something went wrong on it before and eliminated the components. If you look down the back of the engine bay of your 86 ST162, then behind the inlet manifold should be the EGR valve. I'd be interested to find out if this is still there or if it's been removed. It'll be on the same place as the 88 model that's in pieces.
