thanks everyone for replys, will check dissy this arvo for the dot on the gear and dimple mark on the housing for installation. am starting to think there may be some truth in andrew_mx83's post as i noticed a bit of metal broken off the tooth of one of the trigger wheel tips. if its a case of the trigger wheel only pressed on (no gudeon or keyway) its possible it could have impacted something causing it to shift.
timing belt timing marks arent the problem btw - cam pulleys are aligned with dimples on the head, crank at TDC, timing belt correctly tensioned.
