    Default 1j engine fan removal

Hey im chucking a 1j in my supra, but am running thermos.. I dont want the factory engine fan and all its hydraulic bollocks..

Just wondering if i can remove the compressor/ pulley thingo?

Same goes with the aircon compressor, any issues removing it all?

I wanna get rid of both for a few reasons:

    Im running thermos
I dont want or need aircon
I want the motor to look a bit cleaner
All that shit weighs lots and im putting my car on a diet..

    Suggestions etc..

    cheers

u will need to get smaller belt and maybe mod an idler pulley

another way is to keep it all but remove the internals from the hydraulic pump

If its a hydraulic fan setup then the pump is also your water pump.

    You have two choices
    1. Replace the hydraulic setup with a 2jz water pump (Bastard of a job)
    2. Keep the pump and just re-circulate the hydraulic fluid with a pwr steer reservoir

In my opinion the hydraulic fan works really well

If you are going to be doing a full service inc timing belt then change to the 2jz pump if your not then dont bother.

you have to keep the pulley asembly there cause it spins the water pump too

just pull it apart and remove the vanes from inside the hydraulic section
thats what we do on the 1uzs

or you can keep it all together and just loop the inlet pipe to the outlet pipe and fill it with oil so it doesnt dry up

if your goin to make a new belt up get 2 or 3 done as a backup

    Stomps,

On a 1UZ, the waterpump runs from the timing belt, I think it's the same for the 1J. You can gut the hydraulic pump, and run without it and the AC without any problem. Drop round and have a squiz at mine if you want, I'm in the workshop tonight.

My suggestion is to keep the hydro fan.
Its 10 times better than any thermo you'll find.

another way to do this is use a water pump off a 100series v8 landcruiser
these will bolt on with a very minor modification

Why would you do this when a 2jz pump bolts up perfect?

The thing stomps has to think about is if he is willing to pull the front of the motor to bits to replace the hydro pump.

If he is going to do a service to the motor before he drops it in and replace the timing belt, then he can do the pump at the same time.
But if he aint then it isnt worth doing in my opinion.

Just re-circulate the hydro pump and install the thermo's

Or better yet install the hydro setup

Many people try this, and it doesn't work.
You are best to spend the money getting a 2jz waterpump and pulley.
Or possibly get one of those alloy pulley sets they sell.

    Are you sure?
The 1uz pump looks like this

The 2uz one would not be much different.

The 1jz one looks like this.

They dont look similar at all.

    Oh, fair enough then.

But the water pump on the 1UZ doesn't run the fan. Its a seperate bracket/pump completely.

I'm not sure the 2UZ uses this same bracket or not, but the UZS131 1UZ doesn't, so thats what a lot of people use (its the only 1UZ to run a clutch fan).

    Sorry for the topic diversion.

And Stomps, I just presumed you had a front cut, not just an engine package.

On my 1jz, the original power steering fluid res has been connected to the fan pump so that the pump has fluid to circulate.

It seems to be working fine.

A singe loop of hose may be a bit short, surely you can squeeze a reservoir in there somewhere.
