    Default Thermo fan options

Ok I need some ideas, I bought a big radiator to replace my leaking old one and then one nightmare has turned into another.

You see when one radiator is twice as thick as the other you then run into some clearance issues with the crankshaft pulley.

The current fans are proving a nightmare so I'm going to bite the bullet and throw some cash at some new fans too.

So the question, anyone know some thermo fans that are slimline, ie thinner then the average fan.

The other choice is to front mount them but theres less space on that side surface area wise.

Last ditch option is to remove the crankshaft pulley and then like Stitt did have the front section machined off and then rid my clearance issues.

Thoughts opinions on the best way to tackle the problem, and recommendation of some thin fans will receive +23 rep.

    Thanks in advance,

    rona

Machining off the front of the crank pulley is your best bet. Not overly expensive to get done either. My last one cost $20 to get done.

Either that or the Flexilite fans which Perm is using on his MX73 are quite thin, thinner than the DC ones i bought off him anyway. Check the Perms thread for that one.
From memory there were also some ultra thin fans from Supercheap which Rod used on his RA28... Check his thread for more details.

I just need to get it off first that be the hard bit .

I got the price of bigworm through a pm for his fans, even his cheap price of $470 is a little more then I hope to spec. But they may be an option as they sure do look nice and thin.

Did I mention I filled the radiator and am now going to have to empty 40 dollars of toyota red over my driveway

No the position it sits in is as far forward as it could go any further forward and its too tall for the bonnet to close.

Takai I remember those slim ones from Rod's thread, they were a clearance item, i'll check my local stores on the weekend to see if they happen to have any left.

Yeah, from memory they were a clearance item. Maybe give Ace a PM and see if he can track some down, i remember him mentioning that his store had some in stock. if thats the case (and you can wait till DD) maybe you could figure out the Perm couriering service.

Thanks takai, will have a look in rods thread for the part number but if rod or someone else with them sees this it would be greatly appreciate if they could measure the width of them, I'll then measure up my space left tommorow morning and see whether they are an option.

I was hoping to have the car ready for dyno day, not cos it will run, but I know a few ppl like Viper Nippelex probably want to see how well the new suspension goes

Hmm remove cowling, jack up car and insert said bucket sounds like effort to me

I'll probably buy a new oil tray to use

How thick is your rad? I have a PWR rad in my ma61 that is a good 2x thicker than the standard ma61 unit. Mounts up to the standard mounting points and leaves me *just* enough clearance to fit a set of EL thermofans in. Although, I did have to use some cable ties to pull the shrouding of the fans closer to the rad so it would contact the water pump pulley. No issues at all with the crank pulley.

57mm core, looking at rods threads the supercheap may be a be too big, it may just be the placement of the current ones though will have a better look tomorrow (i'll blame my Holden mate who mounted them ), EL falcon ones you say hmmm.

    You got any pics MA61turbo

I don't have any pics at the moment, can get them no worries for you. The radiator I have is the same as the one Bbaacchhyy put in his car, I can't remember if he had any photos of it with the fans attached in his thread.

I've just gone and measured the thickness of the rad and it's the same as yours, 57mm. Depending on how the fan unit is mounted to the radiator it should clear it with some EL fans.

EDIT: Found a pic of the radiator in Bbaacchhyy's car without the fans attached, it's not fully mounted, but is where the radiator ended up sitting once mounts had been welded on.
