is CT26 core the same as CT12? and is it the o-rings that have failed or the bushes or other metal wearing bits?

Anyway, i thought CT12's were un-rebuildable and it was more cost effective to buy another pair from someone doign the big single conversion.

Ive seen kits for the ct12s... they contain the three orings plus bushes thrust washers and a central carbon seal. he does em for about 650 apop so..... as to single turb, good but sequencial turbs as standard are a sexy idea. Just need to find the kits cheaper.

From what I can work out the steel wheels would allow 20 plus boost but there still A series and so would not bother... find your self B series like on the gen 3 mk3

    CT12s from a 1G are not the same as CT12A found on a 1J

I'd suggest you find a chyeap, 2nd-hand pair and bolt them on when you kill the existing turbos - and use the money you saved on the deal to buy a big-single manifold off eBay or 6Boost and get a decent, large turbo. WIth the cheap, chinese Garret-knock-off copies goming down in price, they're just about disposable items.
