timing belt light
g'day,
my troopy just clicked over 200,000km today and the timing belt light on the dash has come on. I'm wondering if anybody knows how i could turn it off? all belts ect were changed at 180,000km so isn't due for a while.
the motor is a 1hz 4.2d. Ive searched and looked through the owners manual and i cant find anything. I'm pretty sure i just have to short something out but what???

what series? the latter series is a pain takes about the same time to change the belt as it does to get rid of the belt light,you have to move a plug across behind the instrement cluster! from mermory in the early series the answer to you question is in the owners book.

ill have another look in the book. its a 91 75 series.
also when i bought it (b4 i took delivery) i all the oils changed diffs,motor,g'box and transfer. i did 2500kms over x-mas and the gearchange is getting notchy. you recon the could of put the wrong grade oil in the box?? or maybe im getting paranoid

75 series is much easyer than the later series and is in the book!
Wrong oil by the sound and or the oil change has now knocked the additives of the gearset.
Drop the oil out and put in what toyota recommends and give it a few thousand km and then give us a yell. Im sure you couldnt have gone that wrong on oil unless you went to woolies for the oil
my landcruiser is notchy with 300km on the clock and its a ute with the same box! I mean notchy and pain in the arse for 4th ! i dont even know what oil is in it as i have never touched it as the service i get on tax so one less car for me to do

sorry mate i missed a word out in above post. i did pay some1 else to do the oil service.
but they work on alot of 1hz's so i wouldnt think they'd put the wrong oil in the box.
ill just drop it and change it anyways.

Other option is to remove that globe. Never have to worry again.

KM. looked again through the owners manual and it states "if timing belt light comes on take to toyota for belt change. driving with this light on can cause serious damage"
and thats all it says in the book about the whole matter.
options?? surely its not hard. ill give toyota a call tomorrow.

Dont, easy with 75series,there is rubber plug on the speedo, pull it out and push pin in to reset!

It is just a case of moving a pin, but its which one. Easier to pull the globe out an sav it for when one of the other blows.

should have a button in the dash cluster to press with a pin or small screwdriver some times there is a rubber plug in the plastic screen of the cluster pull it out them put the pin threw to the cluster button
