    Default 7MGTE engine fan noise

    Bit of a strange question.
I had a new engine fan hub installed yesterday as old one was pretty knackered. Now, when idling it pulls a decent amount of air, and when driving, the fan sounds about as loud as the engine itsefl. It sounds like its going to take off when its doing about 4000rpm.
Is this normal??? Its not like mechanical noise, just sounds like an industrial size fan ( funny that ).
None of the other cars with this kind of fan have been this loud, and I've only driven this 7MGTE with a half shagged fan, so I'm not sure if it should have always been like this.
    Any comments appreciated.
    Thanks

Sounds like it's stuck on engaged. My old clutch fan did that, and boy was it annoying. All you can hear is the industrial fan WHOOOOOOOOOOOOSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHH noise.

And are we talking about 'new' new? Or second hand new?

Yeah, that basically describes it, and I was thinking that might be the case.
Thing is, its brand new, so how would I get it to disengage when its supposed to???
Or is it a case of its faulty and return it???

The second option. Once they lock solid it generally means the clutch in the centre is rooted. Try spinning it when the engine isnt on, generally when they sieze you wont be able to

thats the clutch engaging, does it when you have a "new" one (i.e. works properly).

i refurbed mine with 10,000 weight silicon fan oil that i got from toyota, afterwards, it had never cooled so well, so i was more than happy to live with my engine sounding like a truck engine.

Clutch fans disengage at a certain RPM so they dont load the engine for no reason when the car is getting good airflow from being moving.. Thats the whole point of them, otherwise all fans would just be fixed. Sheesh. It should NOT sound like a truck, plane or any type of industrial equipment whilst youre driving

Don't you mean they disengage at a certain temperature?

Or is it a double action gizmo?

Well, they disengage one way or the other (I'd heard RPM but you're probably right) They certainly dont stay locked when youre doing 6000rpm in 3rd!

Yep, temperature, you are correct. Explains why they disengage when the car is moving too

Good news. Turns out the problem fixed itself.
When I first got home last night I turned it by hand to check that it wasn't locked, and this morning asked for advice.
When I got home from work this arvo to investigate a bit further, it worked fine. Fully engaged when idling, and driving at about 5 km/h, but when I drove down the street, noise gone.
Of course when this occurred I then warmed it up and proceed to work through the rev range ( purely for research purposes ) and it has indeed fixed itself.

So, thanks for the prompt replies everyone, but it turns out this problem worked itself out.
I assume it might have just stuck because it was brand new, and I free'd it when I turned it last night.

+ rep for prompt and helpfullness where appropriate.
