4.1 is pretty good for the street. Depends how short you want 1st gear but i'd prefer about 4.5 myself.
What has it currently got & are you happy with it?
with the stock sprinter diff making all sorts if whines, i figure now is a good time to swap to a hilux diff. however im not realy sure what ratio would be best suited. at the moment the setup is 4agte - t50 - S series diff. the car is a street car, but it will see the occasional trip to the strip. suggestions?

i would think that 4:3 would be the best option. for your needs
somewhere in the early 4's would be appropriate, you dont want too short otherwise youll never get good speed out of 1st and 2nd.
i have a 4.3 ratio out of a hilux here if you are intersted let me know.
Turbo boys, use the torqueI think a 3.9 would be ideal....maybe even a 3.7. Still short enough to be streetable off boost but will 'load' the engine up nicely to get you on boost. More time in gear as well.
If you can get access to Cartest (quite an old car sim program) i have found this very accurate for diff ratio selection. All my cars have run very close to the predicted times at the stated ratio so you can then test a heap of different ratios to see what they'll do for you.
For my 18RGT a 3.5 was the go.
For the GT8 i should be running a 2.8:1 but can only get a 2.9:1 which is what i currently use in full TRD form to great effect.

i would have thought 3.7 or 3.9 as well![]()
whats the point of waiting for turbo lag if you have to change gears so often (ie, into 4th before 100)? kinda defeats the purpose

cheers for the responses so far, after calling a heap of wreckers today (none of whom could help me out with a complete rn41 hilux diff) most of the centers i can find are 4.1
my main problem is i havent realy had a chance to drive the car hard yet, it curently has a 5000rpm rev cut and is running about 5psi of boost, as it was only a run in tune, so im not realy sure if imhappy with the current ratio or not!
it curently has the stock s314 coded diff. i cant figure out what ratio that is?

right im dumb, i have 3.9s according to the link i gave myself!
