Haha the steering ona ke20 is light enough for a 5yr old methinks, but then i don't work for the RTA, maybe when they picture no power steering they think HQ one tonner with a load of bricks on the back? lol

this thread is for Nathan's (TA-022) car
he has done some extensive measuring and implemented an RA60 crossmember into his ra28 (which would give both R&P and power steering, but has rear facing crossmember, ie front sumped engines). it gave wider track but from all accounts was a successful transplant.
it starts at post number 57 in his readers rides section.

MWP used an ae82 rack o connect to a ta23 crossmember (same as ra28 crossmember but rear facing like the ra60 above)

joel (turbora28) used a ke70/ae86 setup as mentioned already above
brett used an mx62 power steering box in the ra40 as mentioned above...not quite the same as an ra28 but i am sure it isn't too far out.

here is a web page for some ra60 r&p conversion into ra28/ta45

note that the 18r in your celica currently would have a rear sump on it so all the options above hich change the crossmember, you will need to find a front sump at least to avoid fouling issues, these are plentiful on coronas around the same ear i think (i saw at least 6 front sumped 18r's at our local wreckers).
none of this is will be for beginners.
probably brett's approach would be the easiest, best, cheapest wayy to start and he has recommended you don't worry about it so there you go.

In reply to all posts, those who saw my old ra28 with the 1ggze, it had an ma45 (or mx62) P/s box with a shortened steering column internal shaft. Quite easy, just had to elongate 1 hole on the chassis to make it fit. Worked a charm. No rack and pinion required.

Oh and GrimBoy mounts VL Commodore racks to TA23 Crossmembers.

Ill go this way if the RA60 doesnt pan out.

sorry to drag up a post from months ago but I have been looking into the mx62 power steering box conversion and i've found a little bit of info but not quite enough yet. This is mainly aimed at 77gze, just wondering if you could give a quick run down on what was required. I've got a rear sump 1g in an ra28 so R&P is a little harder to do without a lot of work. Is it just a matter of elongating a hole? Is there any need to space the box out from the chassis rail and is it absolutely necessary to shorted the steering column? Any tips you could give before I go out and buy a box would be very much appreciated.

I sold the car with it on a long time ago after the accident, but im doing it again soon myself, ansondv still has the car, so maybe you could ask for a few photos of it?
From memory, the main mods are:
spacers from the chassis (i made from cast iron)
shorten column on the comression nylon (take out steering column)
    elongate chassis holes.
Thats from memory, if i can contact ansondv, ill go take some photos of my old setup for ya!

That would be great thanks. Looking forward to easier parking and shorted steering knuckles and still being light enough for my wife to drive
