Dunno, I've just questioned my source, and it seems very dodgy.

I think it is a good thing that it you don’t think it is a metal to metal noise.

I agree with Chuckster about running it without spark in one cylinder at a time and while doing that use garden hose or a long screwdriver with your ear on the handle to try and pinpoint the sound.

If you want to check big end, little end and gudgeon pin pull the plugs out and move the piston to TDC and then with a piece of wood on the piston push down and see if you can feel any movement at all when you do that.
(obviously use a piece of wood that isn’t going to splinter or break!)

I didnt think the cars were driven like that...

Wouldn hurt the car really i dont think but you would be stopping to top up the oil every 5k's & thats coz it would be coating the underside of your bonnet with it.

Oh, and if you could still see past all the smoke of it burning off.

EDIT: Missed a page and thought we were still talkin bout a rocker cover here. Thought it wa a funny thing to ask...

Whats this about oil? There should be no oil providing all your oil seals are sealing. That said, take it off, check, put it back. It doesn't take that long.

Well , when a timing belt cover is not bolted down properly you get the noise ive been complaining about ...

as i said ill take it off and see if there is a problem with the belt ... what i found was this ..

the belt on there is BRAND new , looks to have done under 10,000kms for sure

the Cover however is fadoodled ... looks like yet another thing to purchase due to the last owners carelessness with the old girl ...

oh well guys , i hope the problem is solvered for now ..

Oh and that seal you have there, considering their age, they start looking old and get hard. I found small vacuum hose jammed in the channel works perfectly and squishes down well. The updated versions of the factory cam cover seals are very similar.
