If you have a CBC in your area try them, or anywhere which is a Gates supplier.

Big Rob , ive done 3 oil changes since september everytime with 15W - 50w60w as my 1g has done 175,000kms , so i want a little bit thicker oil ...but still thinish ...the tapping is aparent when ive drivin and the car is nice and hot, (1 bar below middle) like when i get out and its warm u can hear it pretty clearly , but if i leave it for about 20 mins then come back it will be gone till i go for a bit more of a drive and heat it up more. then it comes back.

regarding the shudder its no longer happening coz im not a tool and didnt keep the psi at 18 LOL ... its back on 11-12psi and quite happy ..

if there was only a way i could record the sound of the tapping , i tryed with the mobile but all i really picked up was the wind from the fan and the zorst hummmm.. lol

hrrmmm ill go try again now

as far as i know, Chris a.k.a Hamgatan had a clicking sound coming from his 7MGTE after he sealed down his rocker covers, perhaps he can chime in and suggest something?

i would suggest removing the covers and seeing if anythings amiss :/

I couldn't hear the second on for the helicopter in the back ground.....

Can you identify if the noise is high or low in the engine?

Could the shudder you felt have been from a wheels balance/alignment issue as i would think also when you boosted the engine to 18psi you were probably going faster than you would drive normally... Have you gone that fast since you dropped the boost back down again?

That sound sounds more like an engine bearing of some sort, perhaps as outline above it could be a rod bearing, or perhaps a big end.

Either way it doesnt sound too healthy.

    Good luck,

    Jeremy

    bahahahahahhahaah

Could you give it a rev while recording?
I'm thinking, valve train, but it could easily be piston slap or even a spun bearing.
It could even be damaged ring lands bouncing around in the combustion chamber.

    spot on there Bahnugget..

The noise speed is now increasing with revs and sounds like it is coming from the timing belt case cover .. so .. it may be ... the timing belt

i will take the cover off today and have a look see ..

originally the noise was very quiet (day we over boosted it) now its quite obviously there.

its DEFINATLY not a metal hitting metal sound though.. more like a rubber/plastic sound . so im hoping it is actually the timing belt , as it probably hasnt been replaced since factory. im saying that going by the fact the spark plugs hadnt been changed since factory .

i origainlly thought the noise was mid way along the head .. it now sounds like its at the front of the head next to the timing belt cover ..

does anyone know if the 1GGTE is one of those engines like the 4AGE that when somehting like the timing belt snaps , it clears it out , insted of the engine eating it and exploding ?

there is a certain name they call those engines , ive forgotten it ..

    more help needed guys

Go buy a 1m length of rubber tube.
    Garden hose will do.
Stick one end in your ear, and move the other end carefully around till you identify the location.
It's too hard to do it with bare ears because of reflections and obstructions.

The timing belt is housed separate to the engine and there is a big matal plate so if the belt breaks it isn't going to destroy the internals...
