Hey guys, I am in the process of building a street car to go with my Panlevan, maybe even use it as a tow car for the drags. Have purchased the vehicle, which prob much to many of your disgust is a series 3 RX7, but on the plus(and toyota) side, I am fitting a 1UZ V8 engine, along with auto, borg warner diff, 31 spline billet axles, etc etc, the car will be turbocharged with a T72 turbo and producing around 500rwhp on the stock bottom end and low boost for now.
Now, my question for help. Does anyone in brisbane have either a stuffed engine, or a block and heads, that I can come and borrow for a few hours to drop into the engine bay to check clearance?? The bay is def long and wide enough, but I'm slightly concerned about the steering rack and how close it will be to the exhaust manifold or corner of the head, just from some basic measurements I took.
I am happy to give someone some $$ for the privledge, but I really need to borrow it in teh next day or 3, as I would like to purchase the engine before christmas so I can install it over the break. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to pm me, or sms me on 0410 730 598, and I'm a good person to owe you a favour in the future![]()

I've got a couple of spares at home, but I won't be home until about the 1st or so of next month sorry.
What Panelvan is it?
QCA probably can sell you mounts to bolt it in.

He is putting a 1UZ into an rx7. The panelvan he speaks of is the 9 second ke70 van.Originally Posted by CrUZida

Wouldn't surprise me if QCA had already done a couple of RX7's.
Its worth a try.

Thanks for all the input guys, I bought an engine today, I knew it was going to be close, but I just bit the bullet, besides which only paid $950 for an engine with warrantee, so I'm happy. I've done somemore accurate measurements, and while its tight, I think I'll have about 10mm of clearance from the exhaust manifold to the steering box on the drivers side, that was the only single clearance issue. I do however have to fark about with a sump, the engine came with a front sump, which doesn't even go close to being usable, but I picked up a rear sump for $350 as well. I thought this was a bit dear, but he said if I don't need it or come across another he'll give me the $$ back.
Now need to investigate brake upgrades for the series 1/2/3 RX7 so I get 4 spots and 5 stud toyota/ford pattern, no one seems to know of any upgrades.

Haha, weird, I grew up in Warwick![]()
I just wanted to publicly thank Jasper for putting me onot Peter at Quadcams Australia. He is one of the nicest people I have ever dealt with, he gave me a free bell housing and fuel rails and ordered all my timing belt and water pump stuff in, and even met me on boxing day to pick it all up. A true enthusiest in it for the pleasure of helping customers rather than a quick $$.
Cheers........................Kyle
CrUZida put you onto him!
But you're welcome.

Heres a PDF of engine and some other measurments.

1. these are approximate only +/- 5mm
2. based on front-mount sump 1UZ, that is why I have taken measurements for the front using the crank centreline for a datum, and the side using the mount plate centreline as a datum.
This means all dimensions are applicable to most 1UZ variants, except of course for specific sump details.
I strongly suggest that you source a front of engine photo and side photos from the forums so you can make sense of the dimensions.
3. intended as a guide only- you should go to a wrecker/engine supplier and suss-out the whole thing before placing your order!
FRONT OF ENGINE
datum is centreline of crankshaft, with dimensions North/East/South/West of this point;
u'side of sump S 240
rh side of sump W 220
lh side of sump E 200
sides of heads E/W 335 (+50 for exhaust manifold)
top of heads N 370
u'side of alternator S 95
rh side of alternator W 290
u'side of p.steer pump N 20
rh side of p.steer pump W 360
u'side p.steer reservoir N 135
rh side p.steer reservoir W 375
top p.steer reservoir N 320
top inlet manifold N 450
LH SIDE OF ENGINE
datum is centre of engine block mount plate (not actual engine mount), with dimensions North/East/South/West of this point;
[Note that the datum is on the same horizontal plane as the crankshaft]
front of engine W 345
rear of engine E 310
front of sump W 260
rear of sump W 15
sump drain tray clearance S 175
centreline exhaust manifold outlet E 340

RH SIDE OF ENGINE
same datum as above;
rear of alternator E 120
rear p.steer pump E 150
front p.steer reservoir E 290
rear p.steer reservoir E 200
