6boost- if you weren't such a good fabricator, i would have also pointed out (toyota zealots look away now) ls1's fit easier, and there are kits available to do it they are also 5.7L

    Oops, sorry CrUZida

Thanks for the measurements guys. Prob should have reposted, the engine is in the car, engine mounts fabricated, engine bolted in, had to cut teh bonnet bracing, but the factory plenum clears the bonnet by about 10-12mm, when the bonnet is properly mounted it should have more like 15-20mm. The only real pain in the ass with this conversion is the sump. A front sump is where the crossmember goes, and becuase the RX7's run a steering arm, it sits right where the rear and mid sumps go.

I have fitted a rear sump, but even then, they are 90mm forward of the rear of the block, and half of the pan is chopped off to fit, so I'm probably going to get the sump drawn up and cnc cut a piece of alloy plate 12-15mm thick as the sump rail and make a whole new REAR sump, that actually goes all teh way to the rear. Other than the sump, the conversion is a piece of cake

As for the LS1, you can't legally fit a turbo 5.7 litre engine to a RX7, you can only fit a 4.4 litre turbo engine, they are longer, heavier, and pushrod AAAAAND, they aren't a toyota engine. The kits you speak of are for a series 6 anyway. As for the brake kit with the S4/5/6 brakes, they take custom disks and hubs, the hubs are $660, teh disks $220, the calipers and lines about 300-400 or more, Hopper stoppers makes a complete kit for $1200 with lines, calipers, disks hubs, bearings, everything, and uses AU falcon twin spots. Worked out around $600 cheaper and with new calipers, not reco.

If anyone knows a cheap source for the S4/5/6 kit with hubs etc, please let me know.

I assumed you weren't worried about the capacity:weight thing.. isn't it weight x3 for a turbo motor? a first gen wouldn't be 1400kgs? or maybe im confused.. ive spent the last 3 days in my shed huffing thinners....

If the original car weighs over 1100kg then it is a x4 multiplication. I believe that the series 3 was over but the 1 and 2 weren't.

    Start considering ventilation

Yes, car weight was originally 1130kg I believe, just scraped in, funny how much extra capacity I can have for 30KG I was going to fit a borg warner diff with 31 spline billet axles and a mini spool for now, but after reading a Zoom article on the weekend, they have a "lock-rite" centre for teh hilux diff, and the big reason I was going BW was disc brake, but they did a really simple conversion to R31 skyline brakes, that only required 1 bracket for the caliper(off the shelf) and the axle ends to be machined down 4mm. I think I'll go this way now.

The car prob will weight in at under 1100 with the V8 now, I've stripped the whole interior, air con, heater box, lower half of the centre console, sound deadening, and the shear volume of bolts and useless brackets that I ripped out would be a few kilo's alone. We are also doing mini tubs with coil overs and a chromoly sway bar, custom watts link and alloy drop tank, 4 point cage(maybe 6pnt) and possibly V mount cooler setup. SHoule be interesting, considering it will be my daily driver Anyone know the dealer for lock-rite centres?? I'd like to keep the car legal, will be getting tubs etc mod plates, so locked diff will be a no no.

Not sure on price of these Kyle, but yes they do them for Borg Warners. Kristian had one in his 1JZ cortina a while back. I have been considering one of these for my diff.
