Angry Blowing warm air when temperature sets on cool.

I have a AE92 Levin, its imported from some snowy town in Japan, one thing I am hating it is, when I set the temperature to cool and 100% outside air, the damn thing blows warm air as if the heater is on, it gets really hot on a summer day(now), is there something wrong with the heater valve, leak in the vents or something?

I am suspecting that the japs tweaked the air output.(maybe)

So the wind coming out is at least couple of degrees different to outside even when its cruising at a 19 degree cool night, it feels warm in the car.

I need to solve this problem, I dont want to turn on the air cond all the time.

    Anyone experiencing similar situation?

your heater valve could not be turning off, in most cars the coolant flow to the heater core in the HVAC unit is controlled by a valve.

get someone to turn the temperature control from full hot to full cold, you should be able to see a cable operated valve moving in the engine bay that will be attatched to some heater hose, someone with a similar car should be able to tell you where to look for it.

another problem could be your air temperature control door not moving all the way to full cold (in the heater box) and will need adjusting, which could be a trim/dash out job.

yet another problem could be that the blower fan could be sucking in hot air from the engine bay, but this isn't so likely.

Sounds like the heater tap is probably stuck open, or not adjusted correctly.

Does it blow normal temp air when the motor is dead cold? That would basically confirm the suspicion.

In the engine bay up near the firewall, around where the water hoses go through the firewall to the heater core there should be a blue cable coming through (possibly another colour, but the ae92's I've seen are blue) connected to the tap. When you change the temp setting to hot, the tap should move. Get someone to move it inside the car and see what happens.

Adjusting it should involve repositioning the clips holding the cable in place after fiddling to make sure the tap is fully closed when in the coldest setting.. IIRC.

It must be an import thing.
The Mark II has the same problem- even with the air con. Apparently Ghost has managed to fix this very same problem in his Mark II, or so my husband has told me, if u can't fix the problem, might be worth sending him a pm.

Can you tell me who this Ghost person is? Your MarkII probably came from cold area as well, hence the warm air.

well... i have a hokkaido spec car, live in hokkaido and drove the car in 30+ summer heat and never had the problem you are having.

i think it's more of a maintainence issue as opposed to a design issue. pull the heater valve out, clean the gunk off it and check that it closes FULLY.

those "snowy towns" you speak of have mid 30's summer temperatures also, and i can assure you that the heater is not needed or used in summer. cars often have a slightly larger heater but it's not that big a deal... as long as your system is well maintained there should be no problem.

Not sure about AE92 Levin, but on some cars(even Toyotas) have temperature knob driven air flap inside heater. It is guiding air through heater element or arround it.
So when you turn temp at max heat, this flap forces air through element and so on.

Car can have water valve, flap type operation(with water allways circulating in heater) or it can have them both.

Some cars have electric heating elements hey, and yeah some cars dont have that hot water valve, so hot water always flow thru the heating coil constantly.

One thing you will want to check is that given it is a Levin it is quite possible that it also has climate control. If so, then it may be that one of your sensors is unplugged or broken.
