ok guys time for a quick update.

The MAF or AFM or doova lackey whatever it wants to be named is fine

Turns out 2 fittings on the manifold werent connected, i didnt install the engine, and when i glanced passed them i assumed it was inlet manifold heating, turns out to be air

Car now idles just fine hehe, i added 20 litres of new fuel, although if i had have known it was 13 months old i would have drained it first.

Anyway motor seems to be running fine, i've sorted out the clutch now too.

Prolly gunna bust it out this arvo for a lap round the block minus a few panels of course!!

    Cheers

was awesome driving it around the block. Can't imagine how wildsupra did it with bags of rocks.

Car being temperamental. The bunky-spec battery we're using was putting out 6 volts, so engine wasn't getting enough power to rev it up (mmm...Lift!). Just before the battery runs out, the engine starts jumping between 2500rpm and 1500rpm. Swapped battery over, and the car cranks, but doesn't start. .

Going to swap over the 1ZZ MAF sensor, and try a spare one out of my brother's 2ZZ celica and see how we go. 1ZZ MAF should work with the intake, but may not give a wide range of readings.

I've got teh 6 speed corolla sportivo gearbox with a few mods to make it work in MR format.

Eco: There is a round bit of plastic sitting on the stock pipe that sticks out from the main 2.5" intake. I think that's what you're refering to stabilise the air. It's still on.

I also noticed a tapping sound coming from the engine when the car was accelerating. Does anyone know what this could be? Could be knocking? It seemed to increase as revs increased.

valve clearance?? big end?? There are a myriad of possibilities. See if you can pinpoint where its coming from with a stethoscope or similar.

Make sure you have the charge light wired and the sense wire connected for the alternator. If they're not right it wont charge.

JP is right, double check the charge light wiring, should be the only minor thing stopping it from working.

As for the tapping, how long has it been out of a car? My engine was a little noisy at first, as was my new (old) head.

2.75" is good 3" is only good if u have a power fc....
    now to solve this problem
what wires did u swap for the tps?
have u changed the knock sensor yet?
when the car is on, does the engine light stay on??

I've got teh 1ZZ intake from the throttle body. it maybe more restrictive than the standard TB. This isn't really that important in the scheme of things. BTW, PowerFC on the way this week. YAZZZAAAH!!

    now to solve this problem
what wires did u swap for the tps?
    Done (thanks WildSupra!)

have u changed the knock sensor yet?
(Tomorrow, Didn't have the right size spanner)
when the car is on, does the engine light stay on??
Yes, getting a OBD scanner tomorrow arvo to see what the CELs are.
have u bleed the water system properly?
    I think so.

    Double checked all hoses.

Problem has been narrowed down to ECU not being grounded properly. No fuel or spark today. Will be fixed tomorrow and see what happens.

im still wondering if maybe the immobiliser is playing havock.

I checked the ecu ground and they were good then she started. I didnt re check them when it didnt start though, so if thats the case, maybe the earth is intermittent causing it not to start. Either through immobiliser or faulty earths??

Yes engine light was staying on the whole time it was running, obviously something a miss there too.

I swapped the blue and the brown wires on the tps i think it was, left the yellow alone.

    Cheers

    tps sounds good
ok try this, unbolt the ecu of the file wall and attempt to start the car,
engine light will probly be the o2 sensor, these are very senstive, car can go into limp mode
also check the crank angle sensor(could be dirty)
    cheers
