I check the resistance between the ECU plug grounds and the engine block/chassis
Guys, what's the best way to check for proper ground?
Matty, I noticed that you'ld chopped some of the insulation away on a few harness and fuel wires, did you then tap into this with a test pen/multimeter?

yeah man i sliced a piece of insulation off to get a positive reading on the pump, then also used it to get a positive connection when i connected my own power to it. Just wrap a piece of tape over it once the car is running properly again.Originally Posted by tiang
If ignition is switched on then the TPS should give a reading when foot is on pedal, maybe that is giving a problem too. You could try using your 1zz one although it will probably be difficult to change with motor in the car, just like everything will be hehe.
Matty
Yeah, I'll chuck a test pen on it, and see what lights up.
With a car hoist, i can have the engine out in 45 minutes. Maybe i should take it out again since I gotta do the alternator *hint hint matty hint*.
Problem is Aussie spec 1ZZ ECU won't give readings to the OBD sensor.
ECU ground plugs...hmmm..there's 4, I'll see what's the deal.
Thanks guys!

sorry dude the day after your car left, my hoist was filled with a supra, which im now waiting on parts for, so thats stuck up there now.
Matty
Matty, forgot to ask, before you swapped the TPS sensor wires, did you managed to get fuel or spark? Or was there nothing altogether? just seems weird for the ECU to have no fuel or spark just because it's getting WOT readings on teh throttle.
2ZZGE MRS
before i swapped the TPS sensor wires it ran only once. The one time witho no exhaust, but then not again until i swapped the wires.
it's all good, I've got the car up on the stands already. Looking pretty![]()

so u don't think this feels like the TPS sensor?
2ZZGE MRS
from memory the engine should start with the TPS disconnected.
yeah it should at least fire with it disconnected and probably even rev a bit.
Matty
man if i was in perth, i would've check it out, o well
1. did u try the 1zz ecu?
2.did u check the crank angle sensor
3.im betting its the ecu(had similiar problem)
4.like the guys said ,try the 2zz ecu in the celica
5. tiang whats the ecu number
sideshow
using the 1zz harness is easier and more neater and safe than any other way![]()
cheers
Wanna come to perth? I'll drive over and pick you up.
I'm betting it's the ECU too. it looks/feels/sounds like an immobiliser. Picking up powerFC on wednesday night, so wish me luck!
2ZZGE MRS
id forget bout the tps for the moment
on the scanner do u get cran k signals in
and
injecter duty output
and spark timing
tps should not stop it from starting unless its at 100% so just unplug it and leave it along
your looking at the wrong fuking things
Lady luck shines down on Tiang.
It was the ECU immobiliser, and the PowerFC fixed her right up. Now gotta spend more money on a tune.
Thanks for all the help everyone!
