Not too tall, no cutting needed.
But yes, a tad nose-heavy. Though any understeer is only a throttle-push away from being eliminated.

It would be that same 16v 4A-GE, 100% AE86, only rebuilt with big cams ~290-300deg, adjustable cam gears, quad throttles off a 20v if you want, tuned length extractors etc. Then a 2 way LSD and driven with conviction using all of the rpms. That's what I want to see.

I went with a 20 valve, takes a bit more sorting out. It's a good one if you don't want to rebuild right away.

I can't agree more. There have been to many AE86 cut up. That combo is exactly what I am in the middle of now.

iv worked for toyota for over 3 years.... ill never own a camry V6, ill leave it at that

the car my mates building is a dedicated track car, original plan was for a 1uz but after trial fitting he decided it wouldnt fit in a good enough position to make it worth while.

so he sourced a 2nd hand formula atlantic engine from a ex atlantic mechanic over here in NZ. theres also an ex hasselgren tech here hes been talking to so he has all the info he needs! just waiting on some bits iv ordered and itll be built next year.
it all go in into a levin hatch with the TRD N2 kit. very nice

itll go nicely with his tarmac spec ae86. and his 3-4 other ae86s in various states of condition!

i recon a 1ggze would be ideal for drifting as its relatively small in size, a supercharger and 6cyl would have tones of torque and 6's sound cool when they rev hard too

smallport 16v with head work bigger cams if your are on a budget
7age if you have more money than sence
    i have no sence
go with the smallport engine and keep it simple
it is usually the best option

geeez! so many replies! thanks heaps for the help guys, but like whats been mentioned, we're looking at keeping the car relatively standard in form? so deffinately a 4age motor! and after doing some read ups, looks like the 4agze is the go with added power from the s/c...

next step is to find a motor good for a strip down and race build up?

has anyone built a motor like this for the track and track alone?

thanks heaps for those who replied!

The 4AGE in my AE82 has 250k on it and still going strong (previous owner was a lady)
Not sure what a 400k motor would be like.

    Whats the 7AGE from?

The early ones are a 3SFE I think, and the later model and current ones are the 2AZFE, same as the Camry.

The Camry V6 1MZFE looks like a good motor to me. All alloy, lightweight alloy pistons, lightweight rods, forged crank, 6 bolt mains...

7age is a hybrid motor. It is the combo of 4age head with 7afe bottom end. The 7a is in newer Corollas.

Sorry I don't see what class you wish to run in.

Sport sedans? U2L sports sedans? Standard? IPRA? A bit of fun at the supersprints?

What is allowed for each class is totally different.

You might want to grab the CAMS rule book, pick a class and get back to us. Also see what's at the pointy end of the field - gives you an idea of what's required.

id go 4agze block and internels (it has forged internals) and a 20v head with the quad throttle bodies of course. this is primary setup i think anyway. i suggest following the TRD setups

any particular reasoning to back that up?

are you talking forced induction or NA?

    yea i'd agree with OC...

find out what you need, then go from there... definitely the 4A-G(Z,T)E is the easiest and greatest return you can get, simply because of the power, durability and balance you can achieve with just an engine swap.. any other motor would require a lot of work to get balanced and counter-weighed (corner weighed?).. to be race-ready and competitive.. to each his own and it all comes down to what you want out of the car.. plus 4A-GE makes a really sweet induction sound and is very easily tuned for track, drift and hill-climb.. IMO a 7A is a better alternative to stroking the 4A if that's what you're after.. but from what i gather, the 4A-GE and GZE is very competitive, with each driver having a preference.. this has been covered lots of times before so a bit of searching should help u decide or persuade you further with your choice
