Fill a cylinder with water or oil, put the spark plug back in and do it up.. just remember to crank it over a little without the spark plug in afterwards to get the fluid out
i wondered the same thing...

No.. it's only going to be in there a short period of time anyway, then once it's started fuel + ignition = heat which will mean it's all goneOriginally Posted by cuzzo

you would only need enough water to fill the combustion chamber, just make sure when you put the fluid down there you do it on the compression stroke
i see no harm in this method.
its like self induced hydraulic lock.
and yada yada that bends rods, only at revs does it cause bent rods etc coz of the sudden hitting a brick wall type feeling the piston experiences. at 2 or 3000 rpm thats gonna be an issue, turning the motor over by hand and loading it up against the lock wont be an issue.
as soon as tightened, you just remove all the plugs and crank it over to get all the fluid out of hte cylinder.
the last traces will burn off in a jiffy once started...

Filling the combustion chamber with water isn't a smart idea. It's inevitable some of that water will end up in the crankcase, which obviously isn't good. Oil on the other hand is fine.

Was thinking the same thing.
How will the rings hold up to a sustained pressure like that? I understand the pressure they're under in a compression stroke but that fractions of a second not a few minutes...
Well I did say oil or waterpersonally I'd do it with oil but a very known reliable source from these forums have said before if you were to use water the amount that ends up in the crankcase shouldn't be enough to cause concern (unless your rings were well shagged).
hydraulic lock is exactly what it achievesOriginally Posted by love ke70

Yeah....um, don't do that.
I use a variant of madmont's method - a chain bolted to one of those torque convertor bolts and then the other end is bolted to the block somewhere. No movement once the slack off the chain is taken up.
I like madmont's method even more than mine.
